sent my wheels to get balanced and was told my turbo is a te50. Can't find much info on them except they have a slightly bigger exhaust wheel and were built by john myers.
The TA-50 was developed for the 1986/87 Buick Grand National/T-Type customer who is looking for a very responsive, yet powerful turbo for their modified V-6 Buick.
Perfect for the car with a small camshaft and cylinder head upgrade, 2800 stall convertor and other basic modifications.
The TA-50 is factory appearing and a 100% bolt on upgrade that will support 475 HP.
Utilizing the same 60 trim TO4-E compressor wheel as the TA-49, but a larger, more efficient T-350 Stage 5 turbine wheel for increased exhaust capacity.
The mystery is solved...
the compressor housing not a stock appearing one. Reed told me 585 flywheel and he said he got one in the 10s if I remember right
Sounds like a bigger turbo than described What are the in / ex on the compressor wheel?inducer 2.92 ex 2.54 ptrim
Lmk how you make out with this. I remember a customers car about 3 years ago that had one of these and a d5. It was a complete turd. I think it ran mid 13's. I switched it to a te44 and chipped it and it went 12.20 with no other changes. Spool time was 1/4 of what it was with the T350 turbine. I also tried one of these on my blue car a while back with the wastegate wired shut and couldnt get past 450whp. The compressor was simply done. The engine was a low compression slightly over cammed turd but it later went 10.61 with a 60-1. TE50 is T04E 60 trim comp wheel and the expensive T350 10 blade turbine. Aka PT51 if it has the E cover. It needs a small stockish cam with a good converter to work properly. Kind of a mismatch of wheels imo. The 60-1 comp wheel would be an easy switch out and would work better on an engine with heads and cam.The 6152 uses the same turbine with the 61m GT35r comp wheel and doesnt run out of steam. The 61 comp wheel uses a bastard backing plate to be used on a t04E that makes it too expensive to switch out. The 61 comp wheel isnt cheap either. The switch out would cost close to $400 after machining the comp housing and paying the piper for the back plate and comp wheel.Just thought I'd update this since I finally got to get some drive time with the car. Only running 21 psi, I haven't had any boost control problems with it. Not gonna run much more since I only have regular street tires. It's a dog down low with the stock d5 but once it gets going it spools fairly quickly. Breaks the rear loose at 60mph Probably wait and do a non l/u 9.5 stall after I have a trans built unless I get a really good deal on one.
