I have a 6262sp [new]that I can buy from a friend and was wondering if there is a big enough difference between the two that would justify spending 500.00 on the sp or just keep the TE62 on there until I go BB in the future?

Also would the 6262sp fit the EX housing that I currently have on the TE62 as the 6262 has a T3 housing on it right now???
I don't have the tools to mic the t-wheels so if someone has done this or knows if they are interchangeable it would be great.

I was told that the sp would spool faster, but are there any other benefits to running it??

Thanks in advance; another nooby to gn's just trying to learn and go faster.

If that 6262 will bolt to your existing DP...then I'd go that route.

You mean the EX housing right??

It looks like it will bolt to the buick housing , just don't know what the T wheel differences are.

Also why would it be better?? 500 bucks is a new set of tires if the difference doesn't justify the cost.

I can say this. Many have gone 11.2's or better with a Te62. My friend runs a new 6265 and goes 10.8's pretty easy. I would put the 6262 in between these numbers. In my opinion...these numbers do not tell me to spend $500. Im not one for risking my engine. Too many times, all I hear is bigger turbo to go faster. Put on a bigger turbo and go really fast...once maybe. Depending on what else you have done to the motor, maybe throw the 500 in the bottom end.

I have a fresh motor with about 3 thou on it, it's built right and should hold up to a steady diet of 10.50s no problem if I don't do anything stupid.

I thought that it would be an easy swap as both have .63 ex housings, unless there are clearance issues that aren't obvious, that's why I posted the ? in the first place.

I didn't want to take my turbo off unless it was a one hundred percent bolt on affair and I would see a gain in performance over the te62.

Thanks for saving me some money and time trying to swap it and find out it doesn't fit/work.

My ultimate goal in the future is 10.50 or lower.

No, it's a T3 housing.

I was hoping it would fit up to my buick housing, it will physically bolt up if the T wheel fits in my housing.

What keeps it from being a bolt-on affair??

The buick housing [volute]looks to be bigger than the T3.

Is it the wheel or the diameter of where the housing bolts to the cartridge???

definately the wheel, maybe the diameter. your best bet would be to call precision and order a buick style exhaust housing for a 6262 which is about $200 or just buy a brand new one from them that ideal for your combo.

Thanks for the info and love the sig [86 t-type ...stroked .030 over and bored as hell. flat tapping crankshaft, roller pushrods, "manley" rods with chest hair, doomed pistons with custom carbon soot coating , 231/252 @50.0 timing chain.pocket-pool polished heads. PPG 70 newton-meter dbl journal bearing turbo with trans cooling lines. machined by rage against the machine, bluprinted by Mike and Carol Brady, assembled without instructions using a ripe banana in the oilpan for potassium, zinc and phosphorus. full buildup video and specs can be seen at HaywoodJablomeracing.com]

I'm trying to stay away from the flat tapping crank shaft syndrome and doomed pistons, but wouldn't mind some rods with chest hair LOL

Thanks again, but luck is what I'm trying to avoid, I'm trying to learn from others that already have been there and done that and know what works and what will live and what won't.

I want reliability first and foremost, the rest is gravy on my biscuit!!

Thanks DOC!!

The 6262 uses a different turbine than the te62. The te62 uses a 76p ex wheel. The 6262 uses a 62f1(old) or a cea 62(new). the newer 62 wheels are completely different than the old 11blade tall exducer 76p. The 6262 should spool faster with the same casting ex housing machined for each wheel. The te62 is essentially a 60-1 with an e cover. I've gone 10.61 with a 60-1. The 6262 has been 10.50's. I plan on pushing a 6262 into the very low 10's on a customers car this spring. So the answer is if you want to throw $250 at the 6262 and get the 3 bolt housing it needs it will take you a little further than the te62 can take you but below 125mph the potential is about the same. I could re-contour a Garrett .63 to fit a 6262 for $225 outright but I need the cartridge or a 62 turbine to use as reference. The Garrett .63 is a better choice for almost anyone using this turbo that runs on the street or never plans on trapping over 125mph.
