I am gonna snap!!! I've had this god-damn downpipe on order from Precision since Nov. 10th and do you think I have it yet? hell no. I know this is not Precision's fault and I am not mad at them, but how long can it take to fab up some of these things and ship them out?

Allegedly they have a huge demand for them...but come on, did we all just decide 3 months ago to buy these pipes at the same time? I don't know about everyone else, but I don't have 3 months to keep $500 tied up.

I could have fabricated my own pipe and had time to mess it up several hundred times before I get mine. Precision said that some people have been waiting since September...

It could be worse. You could have ordered a Mease downpipe.
Sorry to hear about that. Waiting forever for parts seems to becoming more commonplace in our community. Hearing about stuff like this makes me think about getting a LS1 car again.

I ordered one last summer. It took about two weeks to get to CA. It was worth the wait back then. I hope all is well cus it's a nice bang for the buck.

Unless you are like me and have to have a BRAND NEW one.....just cancel the order and buy one off of one of our members. There always seem to be one in the "Parts For Sale" section. :)

the only reason I bought it was because Precision was having a sale and the price was awesome...under $400 shipped with a stainless cutout. If I knew it would take this long, I would have just purchased a used one.

Oh well, at least I have something to play with.. I picked up my new 2006 GTO yesterday!!!!

Tom: Good luck with the GTO. On Sunday, January 22 the Florida GTO group got together and rented the track at Bradenton, FL. Buicks were there on Saturday so I stayed over to watch some racing. What a disappointment. There were maybe three or four 04/05 cars that were running faster than 14's. Sort of reminded me of the 86-87 era when the GN's were trying to go fast.

The vendor service alone is worth jumping camps.

Tom- Are you done with school yet? Times gotten away from me but I thought you were still in school, hell what year is it now? Did you get the GTO or is it another one of your dads toys? He's had some cool stuff huh!

BuickMike It could be worse. You could have ordered a Mease downpipe.

Dude- I was thinking the EXACT same thing.

Thanks, that is why I am jumping ship; here comes the Supra. You know, sometimes vendors do have feelings too. At some point you really do get sick of all the BS and go somewhere else and make parts. U want vendors, figure out why they go bye-bye. And here's a tip, it's not entirely because these cars are rare... Heck, even the OWNERS want to run away.

And my gf wonders why I don't wanna go out to see a comedy show...

I've had several buick vendors tell me what a pita buick guys are to deal with. But the main reason vendors are leaving is because theres just not enough business to keep them afloat. As a business owner I understand the overhead and other obstacles they face, and thats why many vendors switch their focus from buicks to mustangs, imports, etc. Take Kenne Bell for example: They used to be heavy into the buick stuff. But buicks alone will not support their expenses. So they got into other makes and models to support their sales, and once they realize the potential in these other markets they focus more time in them vs. buick stuff. I truly believe (and ask a buick specific vendor if you think I'm wrong) that the TR specific shops and vendors do it out of love for the hobby. They know they could make more money and have an easier time with something more mainstream with a stronger future. I think they really love buicks and enjoy what they do.

I've spoken with a couple vendors who have jumped ship and thats the jist of it, its not worth the headaches. Customers with unrealistic expectations, poor parts availability, slow periods, etc. have caused them to get into other parts of the business, and while I haven't spoken with them again, I'm thinking they must not regret it.

From a business standpoint, it just makes too much sense: Do you build your business around a fading future, a market that can only shrink and never really grow? Or do you find something that is not only popular but still in production with a growing customer base? Take shops like MTI in texas, which is a GM specific shop focusing on late model vettes, f bodies, trucks, and other GM vehicles, most of which are still being sold daily at dealerships nationwide. They have grown to a huge business with customers all over and as long as they operate their business accordingly can only grow with time.

Like I said, common sense. I think there will always be people to do buick work and sell parts, but it will be a small section of their business, so don't expect them to be chomping at the bit to do buick stuff. Rather, be grateful they even do it, because trust me, they could be making money elsewhere, and more of it. Yes, you're going to wait a long time for parts, yes, stuff will get back ordered or out of stock, and yes, other things will be priority over your buick parts. Thats one of the downsides of owning an older, rare automobile. You think you got it bad? My grandfather had to spend hundreds of dollars for a part for his model T ford and on top of that it took him months to find it.

It isn't going to get better folks, get used to it.

Thank you... Now people read that ^^^ and stop complaining, your part won't get there faster chatting about it here. :(

I was in that situation a few yrs ago,,what I did was get TH phone number and had a new pipe in 1 week, eliminate the weak link(middleman

Well, my car has a lot of Mease parts on it, and while waiting for them was a bit of a PITA, I have never regretted the time or money spent for quality designed parts that I have had no need to replace. It's friggin' unfortunate if we lose another talented fabricator from our already small group of vendors. :frown:

Waiting a long time for parts is one thing, but there is sometimes more to the story. How would you feel if a vendor took your money, told you that your part was to be shipped in a week because it is "in stock", and then receive it over 2 months later due to several excuses?? Then on top of receiving it late, you find it banged up and bent to the point that it is not useable because the vendor didn't bother to put ANY packing material in the box? Now you have to pay to ship it back to the vendor who promises a 1 week turnaround because he's going to Fed Ex it back only to receive it a month later in the same box with only half the packing material that you paid for to ship it to him....and I am to be greatful that I can even get parts for my car?? BULLSH*T!!

I think after receiving this kind of service I have a right to complain. I consider myself lucky compared to others.

I do understand that it is tough for Buick Vendors out there. We are a demanding group and there really is not much money to me made at all, however that does not excuse people from providing misinformation and poor customer service as well. I have had nothing but excellent service from ATR, Len Freeman of PTLV, Red Armstrong, John Craig, Caspers Electronics, RJC, Razor, HR Parts N Stuff, TA Performance, Kenne Bell, Neal Steward, and a few others that I can not think of right now. If I plan on keeping my GN I hope that these folks will still be around to help me finish 'er off. I don't mind waiting for parts, as long as the vendor is honest up front. :)

Rumorville says there are some new downpipes coming this year from vendors other than Terry Houston. Hopefully FTS, RJC, Cottons and other great vendors are involved to make this happen.

Please, lets not start wondering why Mease is not around anymore, poor Mease . Buickmike pretty much nailed it, lets stop the lies and doing some shaddy things to customers money etc. If they leave, some other great GN vendor will take their place, which has happened many times.

well, still waiting....

Sam--I graduated from Illinois State last year and now I'm a consultant for Pontiac, so they gave me a pretty good deal on the GTO. Dad and I went in together on this so it can be our weekend toy. We were planning to turn the T Type into an all-out race car, but those plans aren't looking so hot now. Give me a call sometime and we'll have to meet up again. I'll PM you my new #
