Greetz esteemed ones,
I give up - I looked all over the net for this. What tests can I perfom on a used torque conver to see if it is any good.

I had it rinsed by a tranny shop. The guy polished the hub too. He said the and play was fine. But that he had no way of testing the clutch other than opening it up  I don't trust him.

I thought there was some kind of an air test possible to test the lockup clutch ?

Also - isn't there a test for the one-way sprag clutch using the pump's stator support ?

MTIA,

Alrightee - I found back the ref. :)

Turbine endplay should be under 0.050 (mine is :) ) A stiff wire can be hooked under the turbine and pulled up.

Insert stator support (still on pump is OK) into the converter (flat on table). Rotate quckly the pump/stator support. It should rotate freely clockwise and there should feel slight resistance counter-clockwise.

Now insert an input shaft. Hold pump and converter - rotate input shaft in both directions. Shoud rotate freely - no scraping or binding. (stator-turbine interference)

Remove input shaft.

Flip over the converter onto pump. Rotate converter counter clockwise... should be no scraping noise or binding. (stator-impeller interference)
Hub should have no nicks. Grit 600 it to get any out.

Check lugs and threads.

Check body and weldings for cracks. No leaks.
