On my trans their is what looks like a brad nail inserted by the shift lever.
It was bend over and I straightened it.
Is this supposed to be a roll pin?
Is it to hold the shaft in place?
Thanks for any insight.

That is normal. The head end is usually straight and flush with pan surface. It keeps the shaft from slipping outward and dropping the link for the manual valve.

If you ever have to remove it ( hope you dont ) be very careful . If it is stuck hard it will break off even with the case . Ask me how I know . :(

x2 that was not a good day.

If I remember correctly that pin is splined and has to be pulled out straight, not a very good design. I had to remove it so I could put in a new seal. Tried twisting it and snapped off. Had to drill it out and put it this way, JB Weld saved the day.

It came out easy, too easy, just by pulling on it with my hand.
So I just replaced it with a 3/32 x 1 1/2 " roll pin.

Glad it came out easy , Dave .

Mark . . I ended up making a clip to hold the shaft in . Looks like the one that a Th 350 uses .
