Just got my new th400 in the car and it seems to be doing some crazy stuff. when in park and neutral it idles fine but if i rev it it seems to have a load on the engine..Is this normal? the next crazy thing when put into first gear the back tires turn over a couple of times then they stop.i can give it gas but they aren't going anywhere...what the heck is going on? i shift to second and the tires begin to turn. i shift to drive but i can't tell if the trans is going into drive or not but the wheels are turning. i have double checked the linkage on the quarter stick and it is right...the trans is a manual reverse valve body with a brake. any help will be greatly appeciated as i wanted to go to the track tomorrow....................thanks Bob

Can you give us any info on the trans? Who built it? Who makes the VB? Have you contacted the builder?
Is the manual valve properly stabbed?

The simplest thing you can do at this point is to drop the pan and make sure the manual valve is stabbed correctly. If it is, then I suggest you get ahold of the trans shop.

How do you have the transbrake solenoid wired up?

i have one wire straight to 12v and the other wire going to push button switch and then to a ground. thanks Bob

one thing i can add as this trans was built in 07 so it sit in my shop for 2 years before i used it. i asked the guy about this as when i had it built i knew it would be a while before i used it. he told me to put a couple of quarts of fluid in it and that is what i done........thanks Bob

Is the transbrake solenoid stroking properly when energized? Is it returning to the release position when the 12V is taken away?

Even if the solenoid appears to be stroking correctly, remove it and check the valve behind it to make sure it is free to move in and out. If it is stuck, that is most likely your problem. Work it in and out until the valve moves freely in and out, then replace the solenoid and test the unit.

trans

Don,Happy Birthday. i took the solenoid out . the valve behind moves freely and the soleniod is working correctly. i called Keith at Neal Racing and he told me to take the pan off and to make sure the pin was attached to the valve in the valve body. it is attached and moving back and forth when shifted. i would have called Keith earlier but i didn't think he would be at his shop but he was there working. Keith is going to send me another valve body as he think maybe a plug has moved. thanks for your help Don.............Bob

update

the whole trans is coming out and going back to Neal Racing. .........Bob

Neal Racing

Neal Racing got my trans straight even though i have had it for two years but had not put it in the car. the trans brake valve was too long causing problems. Keith met me halfway and had the trans a couple of days to remedy the problem. All i can say is it is one bad a$$ trans. now if it will quit raining so i can get to the track..............................Bob
