I'm about to get back in the game with a TH400.

I want to pull the pump to ensure the converter feed restriction mod has been accomplished.
I have an ATSG manual and it shows a pump to case gasket and O ring. I take it there is no gasket between the pump halves correct? What are the odds that I will have to replace these if the trans is a relatively fresh build? If I do have to replace them, where is a good source for just these two items? Will I have to replace any other seals because of pump removal?

While I am in there I figured I would check the check the clearance between the pump gears and body. Can I do this with some plastigauge by bolting it together and then taking it back apart?

Finally, the atsg manual shows a strap to wrap around the pump halves for alignment when bolting them together. Is this necessary or can you just eyeball it?

Is there anything else I should check while the pump is out?

Any help is appreciated,
Pablo

You will need the pump alignment tool,You may need a a new pump to case gasket, sometimes they will stick to the pump and case and rip.The oring will probably be ok.To check the pump clarence you need a straight edge to lay across the pump and gears, then take a feeler gauge,a .001 and see if it sides under the straight edge, you should be safe with a gap up 2 about .002 to .0025.Anything more you may run into problems.Due this a few different spots. You may want to have a trans shop align the pump for you,im sure it wont cost much and only take a few minautes.

I figure I'll save myself the trouble and just get the tool, found this: TH350 TH400 700R4 4L60E Transmission Pump Alignment Tool this is the cheaper of the two on that site ( by just a couple bux) but it seems like it will do the job. Anything wrong with that? Better price to be had somewhere else? It looks just like a giant t bolt clamp - 50 dollars seems kind of nuts for that but I'm not sure where I could find it cheaper.

I was also thinking about a gauge kit to monitor pressure. I have a 0-300 psi gauge here but if someone makes some kind of reasonably priced kit that would make things easier. Does anyone make something like that or is it something you have to cobble together?

You can use a large hose clamp or put two of them together if you can't find one big enough.
