When you have a conversation about the word, but refuse to say the word, you are being childish..

He walks a fine line when he belongs to a public forum where anything he posts could come back to haunt him in his professional duties as an LT, So with that being said.......


The origin of "*****rd" is unclear, but not its timeline, which predates the N-word in the English language by a couple hundred years at least. "*****rd" comes up as early as Chaucer, late 14th century. The most commonly speculated origin is Scandanavian nig/Old Norse hnoggr, meaning miserly. Don't know how much faith you want to put in Indo-European roots, but one meaning of the root ken- is conjectured to relate a family of words with a connotation implying closing, tightening, or pinching (the family of related words is hypothesized to include such n-words as nap, nibble, nod, nosh, neap, nip). The racial slur "n-word," on the other hand, doesn't enter the lexicon until the 1500's, first as "neger" or "neeger," obviously from the same root as the French negre and Spanish negro, words for the color black, which are derived from the Latin niger.

That word was termed to denote the slaves comming out of africa, Indians which were not from India but the Spaniards while trying to find a way to India, landing in Americas labled them as Indians, a term which in my view is equally offensive.

a black person can say things that a white cant. Call it whatever you want and debate it til the sun goes down. If a "N" is a derog term for a white man to say it then it SHOULD be for a blk man too.
If I as a straight man call a gay dude a fag, I will have more grief than if a gay man calls another gay man one. Even if he agrees w/ the gay guy that calls him "fag" and they share a laugh , he'll take offense if I say it. i.e double standard.
I have heard my whole life that straight, God fearing, white, middle class men (every un-minority label) are in the cross hairs of ALL of society, we cant say or do things anyone else can, and equality is about creating things for others we cant have or do, NOT open "our" door to some supposed secret society others think we have.
I have no issue w/ black people, I work and socialize w/ many and they are obviously just like everyone else, but even they know there is an unwritten double standard that gives them a bye and gets us in a heap of trouble if we overstep a line they dont have. When Hip-Hop started calling each other "N!gg@" it was done in a way to show brotherhood, and own the word. (Ice T has gone on record talking about how NWA was a godsend for taking that word FROM white people and using it as power) Now blacks use it MORE than whites and the focus is still on whites.
Please explain.

Not so, but very serious in any occupation.

I guess if you have a job down South in a town with a history of racism with white people running everything from the PD to elected officials you might be right there.

Anywhere else you might as well kiss ur job good bye. Law enforcement or not but there is NO place around here that would be tollerant to the use of the "N" word in the work place on or off duty by a white police officer in any context under any condition.

Your never really considered off duty since you are required to act by state statute off duty and failure to do so could and would result in your arrest actually and termination.

Like it or not I feel a Police officer is held to a higher standard and skin color has nothing to do with it as far as I am concerned. Reguardless of where you are or who you are with.

That's just my opinion. Others obviously feel differently.

i get offended when i hear anyone use the "C" word- Cracker. that word just has so many negative connotations.
but it's ok if another white person calles me a "cracka" in the context of a conversation amongst friends- but only if it's another white person saying it.

Ok. I can understand friends while OFF duty throwing out the "N" word out. You are right, it is socially accepted within their community. Movies, rap songs, etc...

Put a uniform on and you now represent the entire PD as well as every other Police officer in any PD. That's the real issue as far as I am concerned. I Don't use the word. EVER! Not around friends or enemies.

The 1st. ammendment is not the issue here. It's when and where the use of a word that is considered to be derragative is used. There are plenty of black people that are utterly offended by the use of the "N" word in any arena at any time. Bill Cosby being one. You can't pick and choose when a word like that is acceptable when in uniform.

I have close friends and family members that use it all the time. They will never hear me use it.

Not to mention there are people who are half black and half white and many mixes inbetween. Should they be tollerant to the use of that word because they are partially black?

No matter where you work the use of the "N" word is an automatic termination notice with no recourse with any attorney or state labor board. Why is he treated any different while at work? Cause he's black?

If a white guy uses the work "Cracker" or the "N" word at work he is subject to the same punishment except a suspension is unlikely. Termination is.

Can you imagine a citizen catching a black Police Captain on video using the "N" word and posting it on YouTube? I can assure you that there would be no activists coming to his aid and Larry King would not be talking about it.

That word reprents HATE. Black or white no one should be promoting it. For those that do. Shame on you.

If you don't enforce the rules equally you have people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton putting ralleys together. Right? This is no different.

You mention "cracker" what do you thing the punishment would be for a white cop using the term "cracker " in conversation with other whites?
Assume he called the white barber (a friend) a cracker?

Or a group of "WOP's" using the term in their conversations?
