I want to start this thread to gain knowledge for myself, but I think this would really help the new guys in the Buick community. With all Buicks being used vehicles and getting close to, if not already high mileage vehicles there are some items that need to be change on almost every car.

Please do NOT post your personal problems thread. This thread is for general problems, and issues typically from the factory.

So, What items on the grand nationals typically need to be changed at 75k miles? What needs to be changed at 100k miles? What needs to be changed at 125k miles?

Again, please post what the GENERAL public considers to be an item that needs to be replaced. For example: at 75k miles, rear suspension bushings are typically destroyed.

Thanks,
Big

All cars were not taking care of, driven or stored in the same fashion so it’s hard to associate with an exact mileage like you’ve requested. Let’s just say most stock 100k cars are going to need most everthing on this list………

•Fan delay relay replaced
•Weak stock fuel pump replaced
•Weak stock valve springs replaced, replace valve seals while you’re there
•Timing Set replaced
•Vacuum hoses replaced
•Power antenna most likely broken
•Bumper fillers most likely cracked
•Injectors cleaned or replaced
•Driver’s side header cracked fixed
•TCC solenoid replaced, new filter & fluids
•Rear end serviced
•Radiator flushed
•Complete tune up to include plugs, wires, all fluids changed, new O2, coil pack checked, new belts &hoses, air filter, IC cleaned (complete spring cleaning) See GN/Ttype
•Weather stripping & belt moldings must likely need replacing
•Wiper blades replaced
•Accumulator ball replaced & complete brake system flushed
•New brake pads, rotors/drums checked & wheel bearings greased
•Passenger side control arm bushing replaced
•Shocks replaced

You will figure it out, just read a lot, ask questions and get your wallet ready!

I really appreciate this info, this is exactly what i was looking for.
I really wanted to buy a Buick and use it as a daily driver, but due to the age of the car, this is probably not the best idea. I know these are used cars which would need maintenance but I cant have an unreliable car. It seems like i would be better off buying a Bucik that has been restored or restore it myself.

If you need a realiable daily driver, don't buy ANY 20 year old car !!! The Buicks are toys for most of us and certainly not primary transportation. I drive mine to Starbucks most every decent day (i'm retired) but would never take it on any kind of trip or long drive. The list posted by Getchasum is excellent advice.

Can't agree with you on the daily driver point. Used to drive my car all the time- reliable as an atomic clock. The beauty of the Buicks is that you CAN have a daily driver that can lay down the numbers at the track, and doens't cost 500/month in payments.

As in anything mechanical, maintain it and it will give you the logevity desired.

These cars can be reliable daily drivers. I'd be more worried about getting it stolen.

Great daily driver if its not modified. They seem to run forever stock. And I would not leave mine unattended, cause it would be gone when I got back.
A t-type with chrome trim blends in better, and you can have it without being black.

the only original parts in my engine are the block and a few bolts! primary driver, has been on 4 700 mile drives and a few 200 mile drives aswell with out a peep from it! most recent trip was up to school in Michigan from Maryland, 700 mile trip, the week after i arrived i took the car to the strip, street tires and all and ran a 12.2 at 116.5mph! of course im only 21 and i dont know any better!;)

def. agree on the ttypes blending in better, the black paint just looks mean and what not! to help my ttype blend in i took anything saying turbo off of it and still sport the crackling 21 year old paint!
