The N/A 231????

I have a buddy with a carbed 231 from an early 80's(83 I think) regal. All I have to do is help him fix his truck and it's mine. Qusetions is can I use it for anything? I know internally it's probly junk compared to the turbo motors, but is the block/heads the same? I was thinkin I could start buildin it up over time and have somethin nice for another car(hmmm hybrid) or a spare. I'l probly take it regardless just to have it, but if I could use it for somethin that would be cool

block casting itself is the same. just need to tap a hole for the oil return, afaik. I think the heads are the same? can't remember. the heads you want are 8445. see if they have that code on them somewhere.

i think the rods are also the same along with the front cover,the crank only has rolled fillets on the mains and not on the rods.

Only the 86-87 carbureted 3.8's would be the desirable 109 block (same as the 86-87 intercooled turbo cars)
81-up would have the same two dimple rods
some where around 1983 is when the carbureted V6's started coming with 8445 heads (same as the 84-87 turbo cars).
Not much else worthwhile if it is older than an 86.

Front cover won't work because of 20(86-87) v.s 14bolt pans.Block casting is different in the lifter valley as well.

The heads have the shaft mount rockers, If that tells you anything about it.
Does anyone have the casting number for the desirable block handy?

All of the RWD Buick V6's except the TTA have shaft mounted rockers so that doesnt say anything.
The block you want has 109 as the last 3 digits.
The heads would have 8445.
