Post your opinions for the perfect mid to low 10 second combo for a 109 block. Full weight street car. The simplier the better

All i can say is,i am trying to build one now and its been........LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

My version!

My version of a perfect 10sec street car in full weight,to me means:" Function is Everything"

1) Must have perfect street manners- be able to drive 4-10hrs on the interstate/ Have- A/C, Cruise, stereo system....
2) Be able to drive to the strip and throw down some 10sec times and drive home.
3) Be able to autocross the car- drive it to the auto-x and put up very respectable times and drive back home. The must handle great along with no substitute on 60' times.

My car is Almost there! It is VERY close.....
Here is some proof....

Pictured below are from two weeks ago, times were:
AUTOCROSS: My GN =30 seconds/ mustang with 4 Hoosier slick tires done it in 28.? sec.
DRAGSTRIP: 8.30 @ 96.8 W/ 2.252 60' This was all done on the same street tire as I drive on every day!!!!!

Stock 109 Block, Crank, Rods & No girdle

I think the VERY VERY best example here would have to be Grumpy's car aka Melissa's car. Current best is 10.15 @135mph and its a VERY simple set up!!!

+1

I met Grumpy and Russ at BG this past year..... great guys... Car is stupidly simple...and it works....can't forget Melissa.... she makes it all happen.... after all.... it is her car.... and she pilots it nicely.

Damn car made low 10 second passes all weekend... then each night... it would be driven back to the hotel... and of course... around for a little street cruising.....

Melissa's is a DRIVER .... She ran 10.2 @132+ then got her suitcases out of my trunk and drove another 1 1/2 hours up to the lake for vacation making NO changes ... ya we run drag radials  it's a CAR !!!! DRIVE IT

Grumpys car is definitely the modern day street/strip LOW 10 second GN. And he has the sleeper theme going, but could slap on a few more after market parts to run high 9's if he wanted.

That link to GN Type is pretty outdated, 55lb injectors and a double pumper is not needed, especially with the twin nozzle alky kits and 60lb injectors now available.

One thing is for sure, if you are going to run the 200 4R that fast you are going to be into $2000 range right there.

When you get ready for your tranny build, i got a great guy in MN that will build your tranny the way it needs to be. He actually talked me out of spending money I didn't need to when it would have just gon into his pocket anyway. Definately worth it and will build the tranny right for your current or future combo. Let me know if you want contact information.

Lets see: stock block, rods, crank, a few bolt ons, and alky. If ya wanna know my combo, please feel free to ask.

ok ..what is it  .. on the trans .. you can allways do one cheap... BUT ya never know when it will break :p or I guess a Turbo 400 is a good tranny for a daily driver ;)

Well its a 200-4r with an art carr 19930 9" converter a HD heat treated input drum and thats really all the "good" parts. Has held up to a 10 second combo for a few years and still going strong with strong shifts.

thats all we had in "my" old trans that Melissa ran last year but she had Bruces 9/11 converter .. 8000 miles and lots of ten second runs.. held up very good but street beatings broke the OD planet:eek: last winter Russ Merritt did a nice "rebuild" on her old stock tranny  so whats your motor set up ??

Agreed that Grumpy has the ultimate street / strip combo. I'm sure Dan may have some secrets and alot of tuning under his belt to get this setup in the low 10's.

On the trans, Russ Merrit is very good and uses good parts.
