I'm a little late to the party, but congratulations to Dick K., Cal, and all involved in this accomplishment.

Well done,
Dick and Julie have stayed the course with his car. There were many ups and downs over the years but he never let anything stop him from chasing a dream to have the very fastest stock block TR in the world. From the years they saved me a pit spot in BG until now, they have always been the same cool people.
Nice job, I am glad to see friends on top!

That's an amazing accomplishment! Congrats to you and Julie as well as your whole crew!! I think your record will stand for quite a while. Very, Very impressive I only wish I had been there to see it. I'd love to see the video once it gets posted.

Wow, I don't know where to begin. There isn't any short version to this story. So sit back and grab some popcorn.

After Dick won the West Coast Nationals we were all sitting around discussing what to do next. I mentioned to Dick that nobody has run an 8 with the stock block and that would be a great end to a winning season. That was all I had to say. As most of you know, he went "out of control" (my nickname for him). I had to swear an oath of secrecy and Julie bought me a plane ticket for last Friday.
Dick had Mike (Zimmerman Racing Engines) freshen up his big TSM motor (he won TSM with his 235" motor). In the mean time, I shipped him a custom turbo (Thanks PTE!) and some other odd's and end's.

Wednesday: Dick got the motor from Zimmerman and the parts I shipped him. That was when the thrashing began.

Thursday: Dick and James Lester (Dick's right hand man) installed the engine with help from Scott Lester, Ramsey, and a couple others.

Friday: I flew to Pheonix with an XFI and boost controller. I can only imagine what TSA thought when they X-rayed my bag. I landed Friday afternoon and installed the XFI, boost controler, and wired several RacePac sensors into the XFI with a (hopefully close) start-up program. At 3am EST I went to bed!

Saturday: We load up and head to the track. I mention we're gonna need a 1.35 60' and 152mph to get things done. Once we get there, I find out they repaved the track and there isn't any rubber on the track. 1st pass: Bog off the line and skate to a mid 9@153 with a 1.58 60'. I clean up the program and raise the 2-step. 2nd pass: Bog again :confused: off the line and skate to a low 9@154. We pack things up and head back to Dick's knowing we're a 60' away from an 8. I study the data logs and figure out the VSC in the trans was filling to soon. I spend some serious time cleaning up the program and manage to go to bed at midnight.

Sunday: Back to the track. Wait for some heat to get in the track, load the new program, etc.. The first pass, we did was the record pass. The car skated around the entire pass but managed to run the number. I rolled it over the scales after the pass. It weighed just shy of 3400#.

Maybe I missed it, but I didn't see what size turbo was on the car at the time, only that it was not TSM legal. Can anyone fill me in?
 
3 passes to get the # on a new engine/turbo, program, and boost controller.......On little sleep and a chit track......That's gotta be some kinda record all in itself......

Thanks Russ! You wouldn't believe how conservative the tune was. The EGT's were lower then when we run TSM!

I also want to thank Julie and Dick Kereny for allowing my family into his family. They have been a great "mom and dad" to us. They will be family to us long after this Buick adventure ends. And yes, I do realize how lucky I was to get to pilot his 109 rocketship!

Maybe I could be the first to get the 200 4R in the 8's; but that would not even compare to Dick's accomplishment.
