I can't seem to get a good seal with the thermostat in. I put the housing/neck on WITHOUT a thermostat when I was flushing the block with cleaner and drove around with no issues. I could feel the o-ring on the neck seal against the slightly countersunk hole in the block at the time. Now it feels like it's just hitting the thermostat. I took it out after it leaked the first time and put a thin smear of red RTV around the sealing surface but it still leaks, just a little slower. I didn't like that as a 'fix' anyway. The old neck was destroyed during removal, but it seemed to fit 'flush' compared to the new one. The new one seems like it sticks out too far. When I tighten the bracket over it, it looks like the bracket tilts it out alittle on one side. How are you guys getting a good seal around the thermostat?
Also, the coolant system flush/cleaning revealed a tiny leak toward the passenger side of the motor right above the oil pan. All the hoses and the water pump look fine. It drips once every 5-10 seconds. Are the GM seal tabs still the recommeded method to deal with really small coolant leaks?
