Years ago my left knee was twisted just a bit during a college drunk night. I had a problem with it for a week or so, then several times later, but thats about it. Last week it started doing it again, but for apparently no reason, and after years of any problems. But it hasnt gone away as expected, so I'm starting to wonder what to do? Kind of a sharp pain when i bend the knee when walking, right around the lower kneecap area. I got a knee brace that seems to help, but what else should I do? Heat, Ice, something else? Please help, its not going away this time!

TIA...Striker

See a Ortho Dr., familiar with Sport Injuries. The run of the mill ortho can be clueless on knee injuries.

I had an knee injury and ignored it. By the time I finally saw a Dr, none of the normal orthos could figure it out. It took 8 years of complaining once it went bad to get it figured out. It was really bad by the time they got to operate on it. Been fine since (~15 years).

Dude, head to a Sports Ortho asap! i kinda twisted my knee back in hs while i was playing football. i even heard a loud pop, but my coaches said i was being a baby...so about 3 months later im playin n i twist it again. this time is swells up about 3 times the normal size. went to the sports ortho and i had torn my acl...when they went in there they said it looked like the end of a mop. all this bc i didnt go to the DR rite away...... just my 2 cents..

I see therapy in your future

I've been in the Marines for 10 1/2 years and I tell you, get it looked at ASAP, not worth hurting yourself in the long run.

I use to take (2) 800mg Motrin before doing are 26-27 mile humps with full combat load, if this gives you an idea of how bad it can get. Word of the wise, get it looked at while your ahead.

This is also the reason why i did a LAT move into Aviation, got wise for my old age;) "GRUNT no more!

most prolly its a torn meniscis, the only thing that will help the situation is orthoscopic surgury, they will remove the tear and you will be fine in a week after the procedure.

its really simple i have had it done a few times on my left knee.

see a doc.

I buggered my knee up as well, 7 years ago. Still sounds like a spagetti bridge failing when I push it. Absolutely see a specialist as they will load you up on info and ideas if nothing else. Cartiledge is something the 'ol bod just doesn't repair ever the same as it was. Youi're lucky it's the left knee and not the right knee...or worse, the wee knee

Hurt mine in a fire a couple of years ago. No big deal for a while, but started hurting more and more when I would run and lift.
Torn meniscus. The doc scoped it, cleaned it up and after about 2 or 3 months it's like new again. No big deal. Go get it looked at, it's not gonna get any better on it's own.

Well this sucks. I was hoping for "Give it another day or two, and all should be good". Seems to be unanimous here, some guys in the office said, don't let them cut on your joints till you have to. Also said there is some stuff you can get at gnc that helps rebuid cartilage?? I did start lifting again acouple of months ago, but all upper body, no legs yet. Wonering if that has something to do with it. Thanks guys...Mark

Mark, it's impossible to know exactly what it is until you go get an MRI ont he knee. then it can be diagnosed byt he Doc. I think it would be wise to at least go find out what it is, and then you and the Doc make an educated decision. It may be something that can be treated with meds. If not, more than likely it will jest need to be scoped, which is day surgery. No big deal, really.:)

Yeah I guess your right Mark. I seem to be falling apart now that I'm in my 30's, part of life I guess. It just isnt that bad, but more than annoying and not going away, so I guess an Mri is in my future for sure. Seems like I heard somewhere that it only takes like a 1lb of pressure to wreck a human knee, what a piece of junk. Thanks again guys...Mark

Hmm, I cant get that link to work. I went to the root of the link and got there, but not sure where to go from there. I'll try from my Pc at home when I get off work. Thanks Mark.

Had a similar experience when I was 15-16, didn't think a whole lot about it then and now I have osteo-arthritis at age 37. Don't put it off and be stupid like me.
