That's pretty good! This describes my computer to a T!

its on my laptop

My laptop takes 7 seconds to open the games folder and THAT was supplied by HP!

Doesn't seem to stop anyone from purchasing a computer with it tho. Go into Best Buy and look for a computer other then a MAC that doesn't have Vista. Almost all have Vista.

I had problems with Vista when they first released it. If you have one of the early editions then yes you will likely have issues. At that time I switched back to XP. If you have a new computer you should be fine. Most of the kinks have been worked out. I have had my laptop with Vista for (6) months now with no problems.

Close to a year with vista now on this machine, not a single problem.
The initial problems of the early days blew it all way out of proportion.

Much, much better than XP, as long as hardware is capable of running it
with bloatware (defender, messengers, popups, etc) removed, settings tweaked, zero complaints....

Just wait, the next Windows code name Windows 7 is awesome. It's a vista like interface with performance I haven't seen since 2000 pro. Super fast even in virtual environments. I can't wait:) I run it on my de-vistafied HP DV7. It is by far the fastest desktop environment I have ever used. I blows away all the gnome and KDE fun stuff I like to run on unix boxes. Almost like it has an app open before you click it.

If you are planning on getting a computer soon, wait until July. Microsoft will be including vouchers for a free 7 upgrade with your new vista machine.

I have made a fair amount of money taking vista off and installing XP on boxes$$$

Brett, I have a brand new version of vista...it locks up the browser A LOT. Many other problems, as well. Java has gone bonkers... I'm holding on to this machine for as long as I can, until Windows 7 is being released on new puters...

I havent had any problems with it since using Longhorn a while back. Its bigger than the other versions of Windows but pretty much any OS worth anything gets larger because it has more to offer than the previous version. My problems with Vista are all user experience related which can be resolved by tweaking it a little.

Exactly why I'm running my Acer netbook with Windows XP on it. My Toshiba Satellite lost its mind on Vista, not to mention the screen cracked thanks to a furry little creature getting tangled in the cords, pulling it over on to the floor.
Even my 10 year old Dell PC with Win 98 on it was more stable.

The netbooks seem to be the only ones you can get with XP on them. Its no powerhouse but it works great for what I need from it. This little bugger would be great for anyone using their laptop to tune in their car. Its about the size of a portable DVD player, and goes for about 3 bills at places like Walmart.

For a PC, I'm waiting for Win 7 to be out for awhile, then maybe I'll look into a desktop.

Oh most illustrious Seers...I seek a boon

To those who removed the crapware:

Could you tell us mere mortals some tricks to speed Vista up. What my main bitch is I open 100 html files a week sometimes and I try to never use my laptop. It takes 7 seconds to close an html file in notepad.

IM running Linux Ubuntu on my laptop... some issues getting the wifi card to work but at least my system doesnt feel like it just ate 14 chimichangas

Got my Vista machine last July and it has been excellent = No Problems except The Sky, my astronomy software from an old telescope, is not compatible.

Unbelievable how even decades old, first issue type things, can create a Halo Effect that just wont go away.

Most anyone that has problems with Vista just simply doesnt have enough machine to run it. I see stores selling new pc's with 1gb or 2gb of ram and running Vista which is crazy. If you even think of running Vista without 4gb of ram and at least a Core 2 Duo go another route because your asking for trouble. Vista is VERY stable with the right hardware but most people just dont seem to have it. I run Vista x64 on my Gateway laptop (4gb ram, T9400 2.5ghz core 2 duo) and its a rocket and completely stable.
