I found that G-body has several Turbos for sale that I can actually afford right now..lol...
I am looking at the TE44 or the TE60.
Goals are to get the car in the mid to low 12's this year and then add a converter maybe next year and get to the mid to high 11's...
Ultimately I want to get to the low low 11's and would rather not have to buy another turbo.... I decide to play with the V6 a bit before giving up on it and putting a V8 in it.

I do have a alcohol system on the car fwiw... rest of mods pretty much in signature...

Will either of these make a noticeable improvment over my stock unit as the car is right now ?

If there are better options for about the same price I am open !

The TE-44 should get you the low 12's to high 11's that you want and will work with the stock TC. I think either the TE-44 or TE-60 would not be enough for low low 11's, however. The TE-44 is a great street turbo and if running 20# - 22# of boost (using alky AND good tuning) will give you a noticable improvement in power - it sure did for me!

Buy some tuning tools like a Powerlogger with wideband and see how fast you can get it to go with the stock turbo. I went 11.88 back in 99 with a stocker and a dinosaur narrow O2 and a Scanmaster. It had more in it but didnt really know where i was with a/f so i let it be. Throwing more parts at it doesnt make it faster. Combo and tuning mean much more. How do you think the guys that had FM intercoolers and TE44 or larger turbos felt when they were .3 slower than me and had spent several thousand more than me on parts. Unless you plan on spending 10-15k you wont come close with any V8 without N2O to the performance that can be had with one of these for the same price. Not even f'in close.

Thanks everyone !!!

Bison That is simply amazing performance. I gotta ask was all this with factory parts just a chip, tuning and good fuel ? No porting, or lightening of the car, converter everything stock ? I've read a lot of your post and you seem to be one of the guru's on these cars and really know how to make these cars run, and I was hoping you would reply to my question. Thanks and any details on how to get there would be appreciated !!! I bet it took a lot of time at the track to get that level of performance. That will probably be my downfall...I don't have the time to run it it enough to get it tuned like that probably.

I have a semi local friend his car is a low 11 high 10 second car but he has several mods and I ain't exactly sure what turbo he is running I know he ran mid to high 11's with a TA49 then upgraded... He suggested the TE44 as a good unit to get the car in the 11's.

Thanks again !!

I was not in the financial position in 99 that i am today. Engine was a stock long block with 100lbs@1.700 valve springs and resealed to stop leaks. Stock intercooler with dutt neck, DIY alky injecton, 23 degree chip, stock re-stalled converter with 200 4-R by me, 3"DP, open dump, poly bushings in rear, air bag, 10-12 psi launch of e-brake, 28.5x9 Phoenix slicks, tuning with narrow Bosch O2 to about .710 on top of 3rd, 110 octane, 3550 race weight, 24 psi. First day to track with the car since it had that engine. 13 passes. The car went faster and faster every pass (except the last one where it went into OD at the 1000') from about 13.3 with regular radials to 11.88 with the slicks leaving at 10-12psi. It was f'in hot that day too. Like 80+ at 1100 elevation. Too bad the last pass went into OD because it was my best 60' of the day (1.59) and the 330' and 660' were faster. Would have been 11.78-11.80. Best MPH was 112 that day. With todays tuning tools like adjustable chips(TT), better alky injection (Razor), and wideband readouts it would take me about 2 or 3 passes and i probably would have went quicker. Others have been quicker with room to spare. Ed Brewer went 11.37 with an unopened engine and stock turbo. I believe the best stock turbo mph without N2O is his also at 116mph. The stock intercooler turbo really dies out in 3rd from the heat soak and inefficient compressor. A lot of alky is needed to get the charge temp down. Fwiw the TA 49 went 10.80's on a stock long block a few years ago and no one has been able to duplicate it.

My friend here is going to loan me a copy of turbo link to use for tuning. He never used it. I also purchased some 50 lb injectors from him a while back. I have this Jay Carter chip that was in it when I purchased the car. I don't know if its good / bad only that it is a 93 octane chip. Wondering if I should put the 50 lb injectors in now and buy a TT chip for them or leave as is.... Thanks for the details on what it took to run those numbers. Is 3550lbs about what a 87 GN weighs ? Mine is just as they were built wondering how much weight they are pushing down the track.

Thanks

Turbolink is not wideband capable to my knowledge so id forget about it. I was only about 150lbs back then. The car was 3400+.

I have a 12" 2800 LU and used both a TE44 and TE60. I saw zero differance in spool up. See my sig for TE60 times. I like the TE60.
