Thinking about installing it as far left as possible and making it flush with the dash plate.
has anyone done this?

something like this
dash with scanmaster.jpg

For me ood idea but not practicle .I mount mine on an L shaped bracket right at the bottom of the A pillar.Ijust sandwich the L into the split in the Dash that way it is right in front of my eyeballs

It would be ok there, BUT, do you really want to cut a hole in your Grand National specific dash (and probably tough to find a new one) applique?

Nope.
I would buy a replacement and cut that up while my OE one sits in a box safe away from any cutting type tools.

I have mine on top of my dash like heads up display. Like seeing those numbers right in front of me. The above the mirror is pretty slick though.

Ugh.. They could have at least squared the thing off in the dash plate.

I think that was just a quick photoshop of what he was "planning" on doing. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. Dave.

Keep it in your line of sight. NO way do you want to be looking anywhere but straight ahead while racing.

3M two-sided mounting tape. I have to use a stack of two strips on top of each other so it will conform to the slightly curved underside area of the dash pad. Holds really well and is just in the right spot where I can see it around my steering wheel without the view being obstructed. You'll have to get creative with routing the wire; I cut a small hole near the A/C vent and routed up through that. Only downside is that it can be a pain in the ass to adjust the TPS but I've figured out how to strategically place a handheld mirror up against the steering wheel so I can see the display. A couple of minutes with Goof Off will take the white lettering off. Still looks like a mid-80's alarm clock IMO

Tip: If the rear defrost no longer works, take the switch out and trim the plate out. The alky controller fits perfectly in that slot with no other mods. I know there are high-speed plates out there for this, but for the budget minded it's another way to go stealth.
