I've pulled a few CHMSL for conversions into older cars. You're going to have to fab up a splice into the rear harness to use the factory parts. Its a plug and play for those 86-87's that have it from the factory. You can usually just tap into the harness in the trunk. I dont think you need to run that wire up to the brake switch.
If you want to be 100% PC you also need the correct back window if you have the factory defroster. The grid doesn't run across the lamps display. This doesn't effect the function at all as it wont build up enough heat to melt anything. It just looks factory installed if you do.
1986 was the first year for the federally mandated CHMSL for cars. It was an option for 1985 on the GM C-body and N-body.
