Back to the track today for the elusive 9 second stock block timeslip.
The weather today was colder than in both previous weeks. Musta been in the mid 40's when we started to race. And the 2 weeks in a row for the track putting down VHT ended...lol. Mind you so many cars were almost losing it off the line the cheap ass track owner actually broke out the VHT after everyone's first pass. So we'll count this as a partial VHT week.
My first pass wasn't that bad with a 1.557 60' and a 10.441 @ 133.46. A little slower than last week's 10.34. I bumped up the boost to 25 on the top end in prep for the next pass.
Second pass was a wowzer 60'. I was one of the first ones to use the small amount of VHT they put down and got a 1.480 60'. Absolute best I've ever done. This car leaves soooo hard now. And it has very little done to the suspension. Single air bag, Southside Lowers and 90/10's on the front. Ended with a 10.209 @ 133.15. Best ET with this new engine...in fact ever in this car. Again, I forgot to lock up the converter.
On my third pass I lined up beside some loud mouth ricer kid. One of those obnoxious "mine is faster than yours" types. I didn't take my normal 3 seconds to spool up the turbo and give him a large headstart. So I left on the light and got a 1.71 60'. 10.52 @ 134.87. Enough to beat him but it didn't help me towards the 9 second slip. Cranked on the boost regulator again on the top end. I couldn't feel the car pick up and didn't notice the gauge go up. Still at 25 psi.
Fourth pass was the best of the day. A 1.534 60' with a 10.161 @ 134.67. It even felt good in the seat of the pants....lol. The car really was all over the track on this pass upon launch but I stayed in it. If I keep racing this car I have to do something about the suspension.
Fifth pass was a bye (luckily for me since I take so long to build boost on the line I usually lose). I left again with 10 to 12 lbs and got a 1.530 60'. I had dialed a 10.16 and ended up with a 10.209 @ 135.51. Tried to crank up the boost again on the top but nothing changed. I'm out of turbo I think.
Final pass I told the other guy (in a dragster no less) that I would be taking lots of time to spool so have fun without me beside him. He left first of course and I did a 60' of 1.504. Second best 60 ever. I don't know why, but I headed towards the wall big time and had to let off then get back on it. Ended up with a 10.590 @ 132.29.
So that's the end of my quest for the 9's with this turbo I think. I was only running 24 degrees of timing today so I could up that to 25 but I don't want to change any more head gaskets right now so I'll leave it there. I think it's time to send back the converter to loosen it up and at the same time to send back the turbo. I'll see what John suggests.
Overall I'm pretty happy with this engine that I assembled from machine shop parts. Thanks to my bud Randy, and Kevin the machine shop dude for their help with clearances as I assembled it. And the best part............
IT'S STILL RUNNING....HAHAHAHAHA.
