I just installed a newly rebuilt THM200-4R into my '81 Regal, replacing a tired THM200C. After doing a gentle 500 mile break-in & then fluid & filter change, I took it out & gave a hard run to test it out. I noticed a couple of issues that I want to correct. First, I'm getting a 1-2 shift even when holding the shift lever in 1st manually, This shift occurs early @ 4000 RPM @ WOT. I have noticed that if I only use 2/3- 3/4 throttle, (not WOT) it will stay in 1st past 5000+ RPM & not shift until I move the shift lever into 2nd
I'm also getting an early 1-2 shift in "D", about 4000 RPM @ WOT. I've got the TV cable properly adjusted. The shifts are quick & firm, but too early. I thought I should also mention that I did a rear end swap from a 2:41 to a 3:73 just prior the the tranny swap.
Any input here would be greatly appreciated.

as far as the 1-2 shift happening with the shifter still in 1st,I would confirm that the gear selector on the trans is actually in first gear.
Click the shifter into first and go under the car and check that the selector is clicked all the way into first.

You are unlucky to have........

Because many of these VB's came with a "failsafe" feature meaning it will upshift on its own like the old 400's did. Reason was so grandma in her Big Buick or Caddy would not overrev motor by accident. Sounds like you DO NOT have a BRF or of the sort VB.
To get more info on this you may call us at 916-739-0510 and I will explain in alot more detail. Short on time right this second.
Anyway, bottom line, wrong VB. :(
