What did you do regarding the VSS?

Evidently, there is a hall effect sensor or some type of optical sensor from the VSS that connects to the stock dash to get a speed reading. I assume the "big green box" part of the VSS connects to the speed sensor buffer.

If you replace the stock dash, what kind of VSS do you need? I assume that it taps into the speedometer wire (in the case of an electric speedometer, like what mine is).

Help me out here, please. Thanks.

there is a module on mine that i got from caspers

:) Yep it runs off of the electronic tach signal and "translates" it into a VSS pulse
or are you using a electronic programable speedo? if so you can pull the signal from there and do the same.
Justmake sure you disconnect the factory VSS whne you feed the signal into the ECMs wire.

Called Caspers and here's what they said I needed:

VSS VDO Sender Dead End
Code: 102045
Price:$78.95

VSS Converter
Code: 102046

Unfortunately John wasn't there and the tech couldn't answer all my questions.

My speedo is an Autometer Phantom, and you calibrate it by putting it in learn mode, pushing a button, driving for two miles and pushing the button again.

The speedo gets its signal from an electric wire, which is attached to some sort of converter that is attached to the speedo cable.

My main question is how these Casper pieces are calibrated. If you change tire size or rear axle ratio, are these Casper parts adjustable?

Why dont you just tap into the Autometer sender's output signal wire into the Caspers converter? and then splice the Caspers output wire into the VSS signal to the ECM.
Thats what I did only exception is I have the VDO electronic programable speedo the only issue you might have is if the # of pluses is different from the VDO.
Just remember to unplug the factory VSS sender under your dash or it will ignore your tapped in signal.

Anybody know how to determine the number of pulses (8 or 16 or whatever) the wire connecting to the speeometer has?
