Thoughts On A Lifted Truck

What's up boys, haven't been around in a while, good to be back. Anyone here drive a lifted truck and if so what kind of truck, lift ect? I am re-doing my truck and wanted to know if anybody had any suggestions on a good brand of wheel company for 20" wheels. I have been searching for a while now and can't find anything worth a $hit. Here's a pic of my truck as it sits now.

I love to put those alcoa semi wheels on my 02 dodge, but they are kinda huge.

Sorry, I tried to get a bigger pic uploaded but it won't let me. Yeah, it's a dually. I am ditching the wheels and tires and going to singles all the way around. My new tires sitting in the garage are 53" tall michelins, the truck now has a 14" spring lift, but I will have to go to a front and rear four link with about 38" of lift to properly clear the new meats.

The fuel pump went out on my stock 99 Tahoe, so last week during all the snow, I was driving my father-in-laws 91 Suburban, 6" lift on 35's.

It's cool to drive, but after a week of it, I miss the ride of my stock Tahoe.

A lifted truck is great............if you have a solid front axle.

I had a '97 Chevy K1500 ext. cab short bed 35" tires, 6" suspension lift by Pro-Comp. The one time I actually took it off road and tried doing some "stuff" with it, it broke a CV joint, and bent the tie rods . I loved the way it looked, but the entire time I owned it, it had a "pop" to the front end, going in or out of driveways, you'd hear it pop. Had all lift components tightend, didn't help, really bothered me, so then I had the lift kit brackets welded together & to the frame, still didn't help, upset me so much I sold the truck . Really miss it too. If I lift another IFS, I'll keep the tires around 33" (why bother) IF it's a solid Axle, I'd like to have 20x12 with a set of either 37's or 39's.

I had a 1979 Jeep Cherokee with 9 inchs of lift and 2 inchs body lift. 37s fit nicely! Awesome to drive. I miss it sometimes!

Cool jeep..... I had a 83' wagoneer and it was a tank, ugly as hell but it went up anything.

I agree about the solid axel, my truck has one of course, can't beat a dana 80 and 60. Now I have to worry about my axel shafts and putting too much strain on them too. Hopefully it'll work itself out, but probably not.....

This was my "Slimer",1980 Chevy just a 4 inch lift and 35 x 12.50's.I pretty much rebuilt the whole truck.Had a 400 sbc,700r4,208 T-case and 3:42 gears.It was my daily driver for 4 years,plus 4 wheeled it also.it went great threw the mud and drove good also.With the short gear and the overdrive it got 11-12 mpg.I just sold it about a month ago to buy something more family freindly.

8" Superlift Soft Ride suspension lift, with 3" body lift.

Rides a little like a truck:biggrin: . It is not my daily driver but my wife and I have driven as far as 6 hours at a time to Off Road Jamborees. It can get 8 miles to the gallon if you baby it .

It really does not ride that rough, and I enjoy driving it . You can hear the tires from a pretty good distance away when it is approaching you. The guys I work with claim they can here the tires coming down the road from inside the office when I drive it to work.

This thing is a blast on or Off Road.

I really like it!!!The first truck that i built was an 82 GMC stepside.6 inch lift 3inch body,corporate rear with 38" swampers(used bias ply).Drove like crap on the street but was a blast in the mud!!
This is the truck i bought to replace Slimer,Her name is Casper 4wd but i won't lift this one(yet).

i like a lifted truck, but there is a limit. the limit is differant on differant trucks too. it is all in perportion to the wheel and tire size next to the wheel well. this is just my opinion, and what do i know. dave

No worries there dude.... I have been busy with everything, my son is four now and my daughter will be two in june, my how time flies. How's your little one and the wife doing?
