Is anyone using a thrasher 97 or 100 octane for blue tops with alchy?

I ask because the 97 thrasher chip states it is an "old" (no timing adjust for gear change) calibration and the 100 might be too much timing.

What is the best choice? Why? Thanks

paul

Best choice is start with a 93 thrasher if you want to run a thrasher. If you get zero retard, then try the 97.. and so on.. every car depending on a lot of variables is differnt. Some guys can run 27 degrees at high boost, others only 17 degrees.

Only one way to find out :)

I'll try again with this. Any other opinions on which chip to try?
Need to know which would be better. Thanks

paul

Eric @ Turbotweak

I've used many chips (including Thrashers) in many cars and Eric's is the best. The best idle, smoothest runing, and fastest.

Paul, if you only have two chips to try... then the 97 is what I would try first. If the car responds well with it knock wise.. drop in the 100 chip. And monitor knock... maybe it works beyond your expectations and you then can try a 108 chip.. add boost, add timing.. you will find limits eventually.

I have run a Thrasher 97 with my car for a couple months now and it works fine. 20 psi with the alky and no knock. I like the chip alot. I am trying a new Lubrant 100 now just for the heck of it.

IrvJr (Scott), tell me more about the using the 97. Your setup is similar to mine. What about the timing not varying in each gear like the chip description says? Apparently it is an older version but if it works good with the alchy then I'm for it.
So your car does well? Thanks man.

The only problem i have is part throttle knock. And i havent narrowed it down to anything yet, it does it with the chip im trying now too. But its worked well for me so far. Honestly i cant tell whether the timing changes in any gear. So whether it doesnt and my others do, i cant tell.

Paul, how ya doin ....

I played with a 97 as well when I was running the stock turbo, it didnt vary the timing, tho the Thrasher chips use the MAT tables so they will adjust timing based on outside air temps. Actually all the thrashers do this. The timing tables on all the thrashers from the 92 to the 108 are pretty much the same except for the WOT areas of the spark tables. So the drivability and manners are pretty much the same. Until you go WOT.

If your looking for a chip that varies the timing as the car goes down the track, Jay Carter made one using the MAT tables and boost, Eric makes one that incrementally drops timing.. pretty neat stuff, and the extenders chips can also be gotten with this feature.

BTW.. did the care package arrive :)

Irv.. your transitional knock.. may be injectors or EGR if it happens at lower boost levels. But this is a whole other thread :)

Razor, i been meaning to get with you anyway about your alky control. But if you wanna help me tune my car, hey lets do it. My laptop died and i havent got a new one yet. Going to try to borrow one so i can check everything out, dont know what im going to do in Bradenton yet. Email me we can talk about it.

Your going to participate. Whether you win or lose..its all bout participation. You will be amazed how competitive you'll be with a car that traps 110-112 MPH.

I'll drop you a note.. no problem on the help. I will help you irreguardless of the alky stuff.

;)

paul who??

Razor, I am doin good. You said that the timing is based on outside air temps using the MAT tables, my inlet air temp wiring is used for boost reading on TL. Does this have any consequences?

Thanks

paul

p.s. you probably have the wrong paul unless you are sending me a controller out of the goodness of your heart. hehe

Your rite.. I must of been drinking the alky vs spraying it :)

Yes you will have consequences using your MAT for anything with a thrasher. It can not be used, else you'll see. I found out about this putting a MAT sensor in my plenum. Boy you should of seen the problems.

Hope this helps.. the thrasher is one of those chips whereas it does changes to fueling and timing based on outside air temps..

So use it but not with turbo link boost sensing.

I'm glad I brought it up, hopefully saved your motor from damage.

Of course i am competing. I just may not have it tuned to its full 93 octane potential. I will have to tune it for knock only.
