thread in oil filter

3rd time I changed my oil since owning the car and 3rd time I have found a clump of thread in the oil filter. Kind of someone left a rag in the oil pan and it's coming apart in the engine.
Oil pressure is fine, no knocks and it is supposidly an unopened engine.

I have tried 3 different filter brands.

If I were you

I would pull the valve cover to see if anything is in there. Its only 4 bolts.

If you don't find anything under the valve covers, pull the oil pan - you can do it in the car - worth it for peace of mind IMHO...

if its an original build it could be the rope seal in the rear main or in front cover coming apart

That's what I was thinking.

I had the valve covers off last year and the heads were clean.
