I hear a slight ticking noise on the passenger side near the front of the motor and I am almost sure it is the valve train. Now the other thing I notice is that when the engine is shut off, immediately, you hear a tick tick tick tick noise or the valve train settling down.

Is this normal behavior?

The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner with:

218 cam
adjustable pushrod
lifters unknown
rockers unknown

Is there away to isolate it without taking off the valve cover?

sounds like the lifter getting squished down from a valve that's open. It's pretty normal.

After you shut it down. The lifters ticking down sound the same as exhaust cooling off.

I would also like to note this sound is only on the side of the ticking when running. It is louder than "normal" and I would assume it maybe another symptom of the greater issue.

Using a stethascope, the valvetrain sounded smooth. I was not able to isolate the noise. It sounds like injectors, or a small exhaust leak maybe at the stock headers?
Of course, on that side of the motor, there is a lot of air movement from the fans which is disguising the noise a bit.

I was able to isolate the ticking. It was the weldof the downpipe to the test pipe which had a small hole in it. Of course it was a bit washed out due to the band clamp and all the extra noise in the engine and garage. Any suggestions on how to fix it since I do not weld?

I don't weld either. What I would do is get a torch and heat up that spot and fill it with solder. Don't burn your car down.

I thought about that but I am not sure solder would hold with all the vibrations.
How's your car doing? I know I pitched a few bucks.

Should have everyone that pitched in sign the car!

My (burned) car is being picked up on the 28th to be delivered to Scot who will bring it up to Sean's shop. Then the transfer of usable parts will begin and we will start making headway to getting it back on the road. You guys are awesome for what you are doing for me. There will be a tribute to be diplayed with the car that credits EVERYONE that donated their money/parts/labor/time in the effort to get me going again. I'm thinking about having T-shirts made once its done. I like the idea of a T-shirt with the signature of everyone involved on it along with the car.

How big is the hole? Could you fill it with the heat resistant RTV?

That might be an option. I am going to look at it again today.

I stiffened up the car with braces and body mounts. and new Bilsteins should be arriving today. Along with trying to make sense of the new scan master.

Nasty Wendy, I wish you well, as Spock would say live long and prosper
