I think it's time.
The trans has been slippy at the 2-3 shift, but yesterday....shortly after I killed a SRT8 Charger...something new happened.

While starting from a dead stop at a traffic light, the trans acted as if it was between nuetral and first. I gave the car light throttle, and the engine RPM climbed while the car barely started to creep forward. When I let off the throttle, the trans banged into first with a clunk and then acted normal as I accelerated. It was fine for about 10 minutes....then it did the same thing again, so I got it home.

Both times it happened, just befroe it happpened, I had to come to pretty short stops due to traffic lights going red in short range. Maybe that was coincidental...but it seemed like the short stops were related for some reason.

Stupid question....
Is it tranny time?
I'm actually hoping it is...I want to realize the potential of this new engine I got from Lou Czarnota, and have been keeping it a 17 lbs of boost while trying to prolong the tranny's life.
How much should I expect to pay for a decent tranny and stall converter that will hold up to 11's (my goal) forever, and still be good for daily driving?

meanchicken,

I feel your pain as mine did the exact same thing as yours yesterday. I tried and tried to adjust TV cable but she's still slipping no matter what. Did get it limped home. Oh well...... time to pull the trans again. This will be the 3rd year in a row that my TR is down/ dead for the local Reynolds event!! I'm trying to keep a good attitude as you and be positive and optimistic.

If you were to pull your pan down, I'm sure you'd find debris. The debris is causing shift valves to stick in the valve body. What you're feeling on take off sometimes is the transmission stuck in a higher gear and not returning to first gear when you come to a stop. The bump, and then things seeming back to normal is the stuck valve unsticking momentarily for you.

Yes. It's time.

Thanks, guys.

What $ ballpark would a good 11 second street tranny and converter run these days?

I'm trying to warm the wife up to the idea...need some honest digits to run by her. I've found that full discolosure is the best way to go with the missus...

Then it'll be all about finding a credit card with enough room on it and a good honest shop within resonable range of the house....
