My car is running once again. Dad and I ran the cam in yesterday and then cut the car off to let it cool down. When we started the car again, there was an exhaust leak where the uppipe meets the header. We fixed that fairly quickly and restarted the car and low and behold the passenger side header was leaking at the head, but we couldn't hear it due to the uppipe leak.

We had to take the uppipe, downpipe and crossover off to get the header off. We tried to use the header without a gasket originally, but the header was leaking at cylinder 2 & 6 pretty bad.

We put a normal felpro gasket with a little ultra copper silicone on the header flange because it was a pitted around the ports.

After the exhaust was back on the car, you could actually hear the motor and man it sounds so much meaner.

The cam sounds awesome, and the motor runs very smooth.

Dad and I took the car out for a 5 mile drive this afternoon and the car ran perfectly the whole time. Didn't go above 5psi because I didn't want to blow the motor up yet. :D

Got to put a thermostat back in it and put the oil cooler lines on it when I change out the break in oil.

All in all it took about 3 weeks out and back in. A little slow, but I had to wait for parts to come in and I cleaned and painted parts that needed it very badly.

Will try to get pics and possibly video for sound tomorrow.

Thanks for the encouragement guys,
Jerry Berger Jr.

congrats man, glad to see another buick back on the road.

JJ, congrats! I'll see about coming for a visit to see how the car runs later next week. I've got to much side work right now to finish. Hope you Walt and ""dad" are doing ok.

Yes modified dp for sure

Due to the kenne bell headers, the downpipe has to be modified. The kenne bell style crossover is like an ATR style that uses a band clamp and connects out to the side of the header. It is a very good design but takes a lot of room. I took the dp to a exhaust shop here in town and a guy who has a 280 and a transam both pretty quick did basically the impossible. I had to sacrifice the inner fenderwell basically, but the guy put the dp through a 3" hole basically. Pretty good stuff.

They kinda look like the Hookers. A little longer collector on the pass side than the Hookers, but that's about the biggest diff.

Got the high speed hooked up last night Jerry and finally got to hear your car. Sounds good.

I'll get some pics tomorrow

I'll get some pics tomorrow from the bottom although you will not be able to see much on the passenger side. Charlie is correct in that they are very similar to hooker style. The passenger side underneath the airbox is VERY busy and VERY tight. I think I might have some dp rattle up top near the ac box. Will have to look into that. It may actually be the big seam for the firewall underneath the airbox.

I love the design of these pipes and I just wish they were made out of stainless and not mild steel. I know someday that these pipes will eventually just rust away.

Thanks for the kind words guys,

Now I just have to be patient and drive the car a little to get through the break in cycle.

Wish I'd known Jerry. Ronnie is going me a call later this week and I can see what he's got as far as coatings for high temp. He's kinda excited about the project and I have to thank your dad for the help. If everything works out you or I will be the first to test the headers. I've been challanged so I'm shooting for Noble in October to prove the design works. Maybe the 2 of us will have a slight advantage over the rest. LOL

Challenged huh?

What you get challenged by some dip with a 5.0 with loud exhaust? I know I woul not want to make you any more determined than you are.

LOL Turbopowered68 on the board got pissed cause I was teasing him about finally getting into the 16's. I told him congrats because he finally got to the B4Black times. LOL

Kenne Bell exhaust pics

Well the dp was hitting the firewall seam under the airbox. I massaged the seam metal out of the way and no more knocking sound.

The first pic is the bottom of the driver side header.

Driver side header into the first section of crossover pipe.

Second section of crossover going up to the pass. header

Crossover going up and joining the pass. header

Bottom of pass. header tape held gasket in place during install.

Just shows the dp clearance issues with this type of header

jerry, looks like your ready for 30psi and some 10 sec passes

o and after looking at your pictures more, pull the oil dipstick tube clean the end off so it will fully seat into the block ;)

dont want any leaks

The headers keep it from fully seating

The stud the dipstick has to mount on is different from the factory due to pipe routing and it pulls the stick out of the block. Believe me I noticed that. Cant really do anything about it either.
