Hello, FNG here,

A friend unloaded an 86 Regal T-Type on me a couple years back.
It's been sitting un-loved in my backyard the whole time.
I'm finally working on it now.

PO was in the middle of replacing the timing chain when he found another TR in better shape, so he sold me this one.

So the front cover was off, along with the turbo, downpipe, intercooler, alt, AC, etc... many small parts were stashed in the trunk.

I am doing my best to put the car back together right but have a few questions.
I found a small washer in the trunk that slides over the crank snout. I think this may go in front of or behind the oil slinger or behind the crank timing gear. Anybody know? Please see the pics...

That spacer is not required. Some aftermarket timing gears were thinner than stock, and would cause the interruptor ring (on the back of the balancer) to hit the timing cover. I have not had this problem in years. So, eliminate the washer/spacer. IF the interruptor ring hits the timing cover , you can un bolt the balancer and slip it in, or just grind the timing cover down a bit.

After 5 engines I just found my First One of those in a motor. Its on the wall as a Collector Item! ;)

Just maybe

That ring could go between the slinger and balancer to keep the interupter ring from going too deep into the crank sensor.

thx for the replys....

one more question-
the TR service manual shows a chain tensioner.

my car didn't have that part in the trunk (or anywhere else).

also, i believe the original timing gears are nylon.
mine are steel.
would the tensioner not be needed on the replacement steel gearset?

If it's a double roller, as it appears to be, the tensioner MUST NOT be used. The roller will eat/shred the plastic off the tensioner and drop it down in the pan to clog up the oil pump pickup...

thx again for the replies.

i was thinking this chain would put a hurting on a nylon tensioner.
since i couldn't find one in the car that confirms my suspicions.
