thought I'd just post in here, i'd trust a local before an out of towner. I need to replace the timing chain inthe elky. As far as I remember, it has a double roller, but with a tensioner on it>? I know they're not made for the tensioner, but I did'nt know better at the time when I had the engine out of the car. I 'vde been reading around on the "other" board since I did'nt find much here, but they're arguing that a stock chain is superrior to a double roller. Why mine had a tensioner? I dont know. I want to replace it, but want the best for the buck.I do have a cam, its hydrollic flat tappet, 465"lift on intake and exhaust, and 112 deg. lobe sep. what should I do, and parts numbers please! i need it asap, maybe i'll change it before dyno day and drive the elky out. Thanks guys...

The stock plastic tooth gears were originally introduced for quieter operation .But not recommended for high output use. I think that the rollmaster unit is the best on the market, Next is cloyes roller, then mellings roller or just a basic stock type as long as its steel.Tensioner is not required for a roller unit. If you want I can hook you up with something that works for the right price. I keep them in stock. Lou

Some people aren't aware it's not needed on a roller setup or just didn't read the instructions. A quality roller setup doesn't get as loose so therefore a tensioner isn't needed & just one less thing to go wrong.I stock the Mellings unit call me tomorrow for a price. Do you need a timing cover set also & I stock felpro with a rubber seal instead of the stock rope style. You'll also need a roller thrust bearing if you don't already have one. Be sure & check for crank dampener reluctor to timing cover clearance when assembling some slight grinding maybe necessary. Do you know how to set the cam sensor? I will explain when you call. 949-378-1590 Lou the grouch!

Might as well drop the oil pan and do the rear main if it needs done if you're going to be doing the chain... It need to be loosened anyway so as not to scrunch the oil pan gasket when you slide the front cover on. I did mine with it off...

actually, let me repost this. I need the timing chain set, gaskets, i'll take a roller thrust bearing. I'll probably drop the pan again, or just pop out the engine and do the bearings on the bottom again for the 2nd time. lol. Yup, I know how to set a cam sensor, etc... I'm not new to getting my hands dirty like somebody I know.... i'll call tomorrow Lou, thanks for the suggestions guys, and help. Later.

Here's the deal My sarcasm is my way of getting a rise out of people & perhaps a laugh. When you reach my age & been through it all. It's kind of fun to tease the young bucks struggling with where I have already been.makes me chuckle when they get all pissed off over some trivial thing. Just as long if it doesn't get mean spirited.I mean no harm & really enjoy helping people out. This even applies to Wicked GN. We needed a cooling off period. Maybe Jay & Shane will reconsider his permanent expulsion after a time. I can support that if he agrees to leave me alone.Vendetas are ugly & unhealthy with sometimes bad consequences & serve no good purpose. Life is too short & at age 63 the grim reaper is already smileing & wringing his hands at me. ( gulp) Lou

STOP THAT LOU! no need for an explination, we all know how old people get:D besides, its been nice around here for some reason over the past 2 weeks:rolleyes:
