I have my door off because I was doing body work, I found these tac welds at the top towards the door hinge like near the A pillar area and there appeared to be some type of substance that has cracked from over the years I don't know if it was seam sealer.

Is this factory do I need to repair it, or is this normal

Looks like it has a door skin installed at one time? Usually there would not be a tack weld like that.

You've had your door off like this and seen this area?

I wouldn't be surprised if it had one door skin done previously.

No, but I am a body technician and that looks like something someone may have done while putting on a door skin.

It's weird because its a big big tac... And the color is like golden. I'm in the middle of stripping the whole car down to paint, but first I'm repairing rust.

That's the old school way called brazing done with a torch and brass rod use to do it a lot in the 70's before mig welder became affordable in the mid 80's and could weld sheet metal without burning it up

Do you think the door skin was done once before, or is this original?

takes some more pictures of the door hem (where the skin is bent around the door frame) then I can probably tell you.

look inside the door and see what color the inner area of the skin is, if it is left black that is an easy way to see if it had a skin installed. Some body men do not spray primer on the skin before installation or after install. Should also be a beam that should be adhered by foam to the door skin. If the glue looks different that is a tell also.

looks like it been replaced to me or come loose at the top and brazed a new skin was usually installed with a hammer and dolly so chances are if it was replaced there would be evidence of body filler around the outer edge of the door in places pretty hard to install one without putting a spot along the outer surface close to the edge while rolling the edge by beating on it with a hammer modern days they have tools to roll the edge for a nicer job

The plastic filler is possible but with skill and a few tricks door skin s can be installed with hammer and dolly without filler. Use a rubber sanding block on radius edges instead of dolly at first once on then use dolly to finish off. Bottom of door clamp a 2x4 longer than the door onto bottom outside with c clamp vise grips and hammer on. Should leave straight door edges.

I'm talking 20 years ago in a collision repair shop none of that is necessary now they have tools to put them on now that roll the edge for you no hammer rubber block clamps
