With the converter seated in the pump,what is max allowable gap between the converter and the flexplate?

3/16 , if its more shim accordingly to get between 1/16 and 3/16

Use a 3/16 drill bit to measure with. If you can't get it in there you will probably have a prob with the pump. If it is too wide some spacers are in order to take up that gap.
