Ive got this wierd problem with my torque converter....when the car is cold, it runs fine and does what its supposed to, locks up after 4th gear. However, when the engine heats up, the damn thing locks after 2nd all the time. I just dont get it, what would make it lock up wierd when the car gets warmed up? Ive tried different chips and ecms to see if that had anything to do with it, but nothing worked.

My car did almost the same thing - after it got hot, the converter would lock up and then not unlock. Most likely, you need a new torque converter clutch solinoid (sp) - TCC.

Alright, Ill look into getting a new one of those, thanks for the reply, but I am curious....where exactly is that clutch solinoid?

I had just changed mine out its not that hard but very messy you need to get a new one, 5 qts of tranny fluied, tranny filter and gasket kit for the pan, and a sodering iron and shrink tubing. Pull the pan off and drain all the fluied out of it. there is a plug on the drivers side of the tranny. follow it to the solonid. pull it out and cut the wires as close to the solonide as you can then sodder the new one in place and shrink the tubes on the wires. THe new solonid will come with plugs but its always best to soder the thing. while you have your tranny apart you might as well change the filter and clean the pan. There should be a fuzzy speaker magnet on the pan clean that up and put it back on the pan. Put in the new gasket and slap the pan back on full up the tranney and your ready to rock and roll.. Oh and a bag of kitty litter would help to clean up the mess.

the cluch solonid is what locks and unlocks the stall converer by allowing fluid to pass through it

please excuse the spelling. Its very hard to type when a kitten and a baby keeps smacking the keyboard

There is a good write up on how to do it on gnttype.org - or whatever it is called now. There is also a very detailed write up on the Monte Carlo SS site. The TCC solinoid that I got from a GM dealer did not require any cutting or splicing - it was plug-and-play.

The one that i got was alsow plug and play but its always best to soder your conections together.
