Can someone help me choose a converter? I'm having my trans. rebuilt and the stock converter stator spines don't look so good. So being the car has so many miles on it i'm just going to put one in it . I want to stay 12'' for now ; but still want a good converter.Maybe someone could tell me from personal expererance my sig should give you some idea. I am planning on running slicks and upgrading turbo later to a te44 or ta49

Cant help you with a 12", but I can tell you that my 9 1/2" 3200
stall from Presicion industries is a NICE convertor!
I hardly notice it's there with normal driving, but when you stab
the pedal, it puts the the motor right in the sweet spot
I'm glad I chose this convertor, when it was my turn to choose...
Thats my input

Check with Bruce from Performance Transmissions, his Extreme{9x11} is a very nice piece and Bruce is very helpful and an advertiser on this board!

Stick a stock D5 back on there. There are usually a lot of low milage used ones in the for sale section for dirt cheap.

so putting a new converter in; like a red stripe or orange stripe would not help at all, it would just give me a new converter right? I'm just trying to do the right thing , till i can afford a real converter.

Stick a good used stock D5 in there until you can afford a real converter. Stock turbo doesn't require anything else. :)

Just my .02.

a restalled D5 at 26-2800 sure won't hurt anything and will work great with a bigger turbo (that's what the red stripes et al are.....there are no "new" converters in the 12" size..)

Is that what the red / orange stripe cotton's converters are? Book shows red 2500, orange 2800-3000
