Previous owner says he had the stock transmission re-built, not sure who did it. Trans works fine, although auto shifts hit pretty early.

Main problem is stall RPM is very low, so it is hard to build boost at line. SM indicates max RPM = 1600 with foot brake and WOT. Only makes about 3 psi boost.

Does this mean the torque convertor stall RPM = 1600, or are there other factors involved? What torque covertor would be better? Car is mostly stock except TT pump gas chip, 42.5 inj, 3" DP, Pypes exhaust, 340 FP & hotwire.

Sounds like it has the wrong converter in it. Should stall in the 2000-2200rpm range. Pull the dust cover on the converter and see if it is a D5 (stamped around the converter perimeter)

After verifying the car isnt leaning out etc @ the 1600 rpm and 3 psi then think converter. There are 2 choices ,1 a restalled d5 and 2 a 2800 stall 10.5 lockup.I f you want to really wake up the car the 2800 10.5 will give a huge increase in performance and allow more than double the boost your getting now @ wot .The v6 likes 4900 to 5200 wot rpm upshifts and the 10.5 will be a serious edition to your combination. The restalled d5 will be helpful and improve performance but if your looking to take a leap instead of baby steps go with the 10.5.I have the PTC pieces in stock ready to ship if you need 1 or if you want to discuss your combination and future plans give me a call or email.

The car is not leaning out as boost comes up at the line. Interested in getting a converter to bring up stall RPM. How much for an appropriate converter for my application? I don't have near-term plans to change the stock turbo and the car is 96% street DD, with ocassional drag strip passes. Is most appropriate converter = lock-up 10.5" with 2400 stall?

Iinstall the 10.5 in stockers /mild modded cars all the time and the customers cant believe the difference.
