whats the difference between the torque straps that i see in kirbans and the tie down straps i see at home depot or lowes? they look the same.. they are made out of the same material (i think), they both have a ratchiting (sp?) type mechanism to tighen them.. i havent paid much attention to the one that is in the kirbans catalog but the ones at home depot have hooks on each end..

can i go to home depot or lows and get one of these tie down straps and use it as a torque strap?

thanks for the info...

My first one was from Home Depot. My first one. It lasted a little while til it snapped in half. I recommend buying the one from Kirbans, i do believe they are better materials. Just my opinion.

Do it the right way & go for one of Paul Ferry's (HRPartsNStuff) poly motor mounts. No need for the torque strap & no worries about broken eye-bolts or alternator housings. I run his drivers side mount on my mid 11@119.5 mph '87 T & the motor sits stock still stalled up to 10 lbs of boost!

Even if you have to save up for a while to get one DO IT, it's MORE than worth it!

DOUBLE-DITTO!!

Absolutely, get the new poly mounts from Paul at www.hrpartsnstuff.

By buying the pair & doing them both, you have eliminated the "rocking & rolling" AND put the engine at its original height on both sides.

No more worries about false knock from the DP banging around on the PS, either!

Torque straps and turnbuckles were never more than a tacky band-aid, and thanks to Paul, no longer needed.

Wait until you can afford to do it, rather than wasting $$ on a strap now.

HTH :)

I've made two out of stuff that I bought at a home supply store and never had on break yet and I like to launch at close to 10 lbs of boost. They've lasted for several years and it's the cheap way out. I'm sure some materials are better than other's. Just look for the thickest one you can find, I guess. I did bend an eye bolt on one so look for a stainless steel one if you can find it.

But true, the new motor mounts from HR Parts N Stuff really are the best way to go if you have the cash for them. Otherwise, the straps are good on a budget.

I might have a Kirban's strap in my garage new in the box, if you want me to look. I seem to remember buying one and never putting it on. My current car has a turnbuckle, but I will be eliminating it for the poly mount.

You spend that 45 bucks yet?

I have a strap that I bought from a local parts store and a eye-bolt that I bought at Lowe's on my car. I've been running it for about 3 months with no problems. Total cost was about $12.

I've replaced 2 eye-bolts in 4 yrs. so I'll just keep a few spares on hand cost about $2.00 apiece.
