Hey, who here has, or had a corolla? What were your experiences?
Lookin' at one for a friend, and want to know the real deal. Word has it, that they're really reliable, and very good on gas. But that's the local rumour. I don't know how true it is, as I have never owned a japanese car, and never will.
But if they're as good as they say they are, my friend wants one.
Anyone with any experiences?

super easy to steal. have a good black market turn around.

:biggrin:A.j.

Lowered with a fart can and fat tires, they run 12's.

I'd just pick a POS American car like a Corsica, Monte, Impala, whatever they make now instead, or perhaps shoot myself before I ever owned an overpriced Toyota. ;)

Just think what kind of GN you could get for that coin.

And no $500 service interval gouges either, just more mods.

What year is it? I've seen a TON with PO420's (Cat codes). When was the timing belt done?

My wife is on her second one. She racked up 290K on her first one and we sold it for more than I thought it was worth. This new one (2006) has 100K and is going strong. Great gas mileage and reliability. Resale is better than most because they appeal to small families. No problems with either car in 10 years of owning them. Not as good a ride as I would like, but she uses it for her daily running around in town and seems to like it. Generally well made and CHEAP TO OWN AND DRIVE.

A newer 90's Monte, Impala, Grand Prix... yes. An early 90's Lumina/Corsica... Never. You buy a larger car to be safe. With seatbelts in the doors, those cars are anything but.

If you want a car that will dump your *** onto the pavement in a fender bender, the Corsica is your car... And I can't imagine 20 years of Rust and metal fatigue make it safer.

Don't fall for that Toyota nonsense. They are no better than any domestic. Buy American!;)

If it is used pull the valve cover and make sure its not sludged up.Seen plenty of them.My buddy had an 99 and the engine was sludged bad.he also had a highlander with the same problem and the highlander had 38,000 and the dealer told him to get bent.Buy a honda if they want a reliable car

Ive bought and sold used Corrolas They sold quick and for good profit. They hold their value very well even when they are shot. I however could not torture myself driving one daily. Too much of a bare boned econo box for me. Too many other used cars out there are a lot nicer and the same price or cheaper used.

my GF owns one and it does really good on gas other than it burning oil its never left her stranded

My boss had one for a delivery car. It was a 04. Put on 135k miles in 3 years of abuse. Regular oil changes and maintance but the auto tranny gave out (never changed that fluid). Got a low mileage used one from the junkyard and went another 30k before he sold it to his son. Still running even though its been in an accident. I drove on deliveries sometimes. It was pretty much a utility car but because it was just for deliveries it was beat up and dirty inside and out so that made me feel like it was junky. If it was clean inside and not dented up my impresion of it would have been better.

I had a 99 GEO Metro which is the same car. Not one trip to the shop ever and got consistantly 36 mpg. I donated to the church when it hit 135k miles. With that said I agree with a prior poster that there are just as good American cars out there that are cheaper. I don't beleive that Toyota's are any better than GM.

Cavalier I guess the Corsicas are unsafe.

Any FWD POS beater.

Maybe a Malibu it's listed as midsize, sporty, and safe.

american 3.1/3.4's get the same mileage as a corolla??? I never heard that before..

Says who? My 96 century gets 24mpg on the highway with the cruise on and doing 60mph.My buddies corolla gets 34 on the highway and he is going 75+

I have an '04 Corolla 4 dr. We inherited the car from my late mother in law last year. It's driven pretty much every day by my wife or me. The car only has 25K miles on it right now so we haven't had any problems with it so far.

The car has decent gas mileage with enough power, but the road noise is a little higher, which gives the impression of a "not so smooth" ride, IMO. The car is also somewhat boring in the looks department.

Ok then guys, which are the american counterparts to the corolla.

Chevy Cobalts are good little cars, Ford Focus is also a good car, a used (of course) Pontiac G5. There are many choice in the domestic market. Also, remember, it does not have to be a 4 cylinder econo box to get good economy. Example....my brother used to own a 92 Corvette ZR-1. We drove it to the beach one year and as God as my witness, got 36 MPG with the 6-speed. Just remember the harder a engine has to pull the less milage you will get. There is a happy medium there. I just used the Vette as an example. The last Gen Regals have lots to offer as well as a 3.8, plenty of power and good milage and ride. Just look into the domestic market, not just hear say. You will be glad you did. We have sent Japan enough money over the years and it is time to stop.

Just my 2, it is a free country. Drive what you wish.;)
