OK I had a bad tps and i took it off and replaced it with a new one from the dealership ($200). The car has been rebuilt with new bearings and a rebuilt turbo... How does the TPS go onto the throttlebody does the electrical plug plug up onto the tps or down onto the tps. i think it may have been put on upside down. My voltage readings are 4.8V at closed throttle and .49 at WOT!!??!?!?!!!does the contol arm that functions the tps piont up or down? . . . i've never been into the throttlebody nor had it off but the previous owner may have had it taken apart when the engine was rebuilt.

Ok so what could be the problem... From my research and from the dealership i'm supposed to adjust the closed throttle voltage between B and C ("B" being the center terminal and "C" being the terminal closest to the driverside fender) to .45V or so and then the WOT voltage to 4.55-4.8V. However far i adjust it with the ignition on it shows like 3+ Volts at closed throttle and no more than 1 Volt at WOT. . . what is going on?!?!?

Sounds like you got an 87 TPS sensor, they work opposite direction than the 84-85.

That is what I was suspecting... the dealership has that correct part number on my reciept (the one ending in 58). But the wrong one may have been put in the package from the factory or something...

Might want to get a refund and checkout:

Subject: 84 TPS replacement
One of the list members here asked me about the part number for the
holley TPS I used to replace the bad factory original one on an old 84GN
I had. Since I spent the time to dig through the receipts I figured I
might as well post it here that way it will be in the archives for
anyone else who is interested. I bought it through Summit as a
replacement part for the Holley Projection System. The part number is
HLY-543-29. It's listed as a TPS KIT and cost me 27.39 at the time. It
works exactly as original and has been on the car four years now.
Personally I think it's better than original as the plug now faces
straight towards the front of the car rather than up towards the hood as
original. I don't know if the original tps is hard to find or expensive
like some of the parts specific to the 84 turbo cars (coil packs, turbo
up pipe, etc.), but if it is here's an alternative.

Thank you. I didn't notice that thread anywhere... that is ALOT cheaper than $200.

Well
reread your post.
you just need to probe the middle wire(blue) with positive and ground.
C or drivers side is supply voltage ( 5 volts)
Didn't notice this before.
Still a cheaper alternative.

Ok so i need to measure closed throttle voltage between "a" and "b" (or passenger side and middle). That would make the voltages be opposite from what i'm reading now. however, on the plug for the tps the "C" terminal is towards the drivers side . . . "A" is towards the pasengers side . . . maybe the plug connector is wrong? the car is running super rich at idle. I can smell so much unburned fuel that it makes my eyes water... may be the plug neds to be plugged in the opposite way than before it came off. The way I have it now it latches down the other way the latch won't work.

Okay
the latch on the TPS sensor for the plug, should face towards the front of car.
If the the latch is on the side towards firewall it's backwards.
Has to match the latch.

Just probe the middle wire with positive of volt meter, ground wire of volt meter to chasis.
Should get a reading at idle and should go up in voltage with throttle opening.

Also:
Just turn the ignition key on,dont' run the car while adjusting.

Ok thanks. Sorry for the obvious questions :) . I think i'm still going to return the part and get the cheaper one but i'll try checking with the negative test lead at ground on the chasis.
