I am looking at buying and enclosed trailer. Does anyone here use a 8.5x20 foot trailer with an escape door? What is the door clearance from the floor and how from the back of the trailer?

Thanks
Any info will help.

I would strongly recommend going to either a 22' or 24'. Speaking from experience, when I borrowed a friend's 20' enclosed it was jamb packed with Buick!! Since the car is near 18's tip to tip there's absolutely to room left over.

Does it have an escape door?

If by "escape door" you mean it is located next to the driver side door on the vehicle so it can swing out, you will find very few enclosed trailers with that option, especially a low-cost 20' one.

Even if it did have an escape door, it most likely NOT in a position so the car door when opened is able to take advantage of it?

My 24' trailer has that door, but it is of no help since the car door travel is limited by the inside trailer wheel well protrusion so the door opening cannot be positioned low enough.

Can you put a 2x10 or something on the floor to raise the car enough to clear the door bottom?

Yes.....Well, actually I made one long piece about 36", and cut one end as a wedge to make it easier to drive up on, then on top of that another shorter piece, also wedged and screwed them together so it lifts the left front tire the thickness of two 2 x's

The one I saw at world of wheels had the escape door. The car that was in the trailer was a mustang and the driver door was open hanging out the side of the trailer. I would not want that door. Just another way for someone to break into it.
Min trailer size you want is 24 ft. Im looking at a 28 ft enclosed because I will use it for storage for my car when its done among other things.

You should NOT be driving your car into the trailer. Do it right and buy a winch. And make sure you have enough truck to tow and stop the trailer.

I would like more info on why you should not drive it in please.

Because alot can go wrong........scrap the side, hit the wheel wells of the trailer, hit the gas instead of brake, if the tires are wet from a rain storm and hit the gas the car can slide sideways. If the motor can't run, how do you get it onto the trailer?

I used to drive my car onto the trailer. Then I mounted a winch. Never would I drive a car onto/into a trailer ever again.

gnxtc2@aol.comI've seen at least 2 F ups by guys trying to drive their cars on the trailer in the last 15 years.

I currently have 30 ft trailer and its nice cause of the extra room to carry tires tools atv and not have to keep them in the bed of the truck I drive my car in the trailer with ease . I'm gonna mount my winch very soon

So you just raised the driver front? Not the rear? Did you raise the right side at all?
Can you send me pics? To: 87gnx418@gmail.com

Thanks

Just the driver's front.

Here's a couple pix of the "device".

You may want to look into a Jimglo trailer. Nearly the whole side opens for opening doors and strapping down the car. They are not cheap but they are nice.

24 ft minimum. My friend has a 22V nose that worked well for his GN. I have a 24 ft with 18 in on the V. I have my car and golf cart in there.

The bigger the trailer, the more crap you wanna cary and over load the thing.

I have an 8.5 x24' with no "escape" door. I had a buddy make me two alum ramps like the wood ones above. They are 3" tall and i put them on the driverside only. I can open the door and get in and out with no issues. And by no means am I slim lol

btw a suggestion.... if you get a v-nose get the longer tongue... Otherwise you may dent the v-nose...lol , I bought my trailer on Friday and dented it on saturday.lol what i did was get a longer receiver which helped.
