I'm thinking about having some transmission service on the stock 2004R Tranny on my 87 Buick GN.I want the old fluid flushed and a new filter.Does anyone know the part# for a new filter? How much transmission fluid will I need? What's the best fluid for a stock transmission?
Would running a synthetic fluid, like Royal Purple benefit my tranny? Any help would be appreciated...Dave

I just run the Dex 3 in mine, as recommended by Brian after he rebuilt my tranny.

As far as the filter, I got one at my local bumper to bumper parts store, they had them in stock. If you actually plan on flushing the tranny, I would say 12 quarts.

I would think the benefits of adding an external cooler would outweigh any benefits of running Royal Purple.... I'd save my money on the fluid and buy a cooler instead. Just my opinion.....

It wont take 12 quarts with a stock pan and an undrained converter. More like 8.
