i need to know of a place in Florida (central Florida preferably) where i can get a good strong tranny (or at least the right one) put into my GN. also need to know some prices (guestimate). i got an aamco tranny put in but its a majorly f***ed up piece of s**t and it slips a lot. someone told me they dont use BRF parts and i now have a regular 200-4r. whats BRF stand for?

ahhh...crap...

BRF is the GM code for the GN tranny in '87, and I think '86. Different valve body, governor, and servo. My car ('87 GN) had a "regular" 2004R in it (non-BRF). Ran like crap. I don't know what your answer is, but you should jack up the car and look at the rear tail section for the GM tag, if it's still there, to see what you have. I've never heard anything good about Aamco, but you should see what you have before you decide what to do.
I know, from experience, that a regular 2004R will not be happy behind a GN.

the tranny was rebuilt by them once a year ago and recently they didnt rebuild it they just replaced the broken parts. but since they have rebuilt it before i bet its not BRF. if i inform them of the different tranny code for the GN and show them their mistake would they ahve to honor their warranty and put a BRF tranny in it?

hmmm...

well, I would guess that they would want you to prove that you had a BRF when you came in. Also, you'd have to have in writing where they said they would rebuild your ORIGINAL tranny, not that they would install a rebuilt tranny of their choosing. Unfortunately companies have no conscience anymore and will wiggle out of anything they can. If you do confront them I recommend going when there are several people in the lobby waiting for their own cars (in the morning is the best, especially Saturday) so at least they will be civil with you (maybe).
My understanding is that swapping out the BRF for an incompatible trans is pretty common during rebuild time. This is what happened to the previous owner of my '87 GN. I just installed a BQ code tranny from an '85 GN to help fix the problem.

Chances of you getting your brf back if thats what you had will be slim and also getting any satifaction from them or any satifaction out of your aamco trans is also slim. There are a few other codes that will work well BR, BQ, CZ, TA, KZ, OZ, if you can find one of them they will be good cores to start with. Here is a tranny place in FL, you might want to contact.

thanks HOTTOGO, Ocala is close to me i will definately be giving him a call. btw, how much do you estimate he would charge to rebuild my tranny. not super race HD or anything i just want it done right for now b/c my car is basically stock what kinda warranties does he give also? thanks

Not sure...

locally they charge $300-700 depending and I would imaine at least a 12 month, good luck and report back.
