Gentlemen,
I recently had my tranny rebuilt by a local company with a good reputation. We communicated very well as far as what I wanted done with the transmission, what the weak spots were, etc. The tranny was built with Borg Warner and Alto clutches, an Alto band, and a bunch of other good parts. I now have a deep capacity pan, 700 filter, a temperature gauge and a pressure gauge on the tranny (I want to make this thing last as long as I can). Anyway, here's the interesting thing: When I first mounted my Autometer pressure gauge with braided steel tubing coming up through the driveshaft tunnel and into the interior, I noticed that all of the sudden my transmission was making a "whirring" sound. Well, immediately I thought, "Great, my transmission is making noise!" Before contacting the transmission shop, I decided that I didn't want 200 psi of transmission fluid up in the interior of the car. I decided I would buy a high pressure isolator so I could run the gauge inside the car safely. I took the gauge and the braided steel off while waiting for the high pressure isolator to come in from Summit Racing. When I took the line and the gauge off, the noise stopped. I'm thinking that the noise from the inside of the transmission was routed up through the steel tubing and out through the gauge kind of like two cans connected by a string. My high pressure isolator came in and I mounted the diaphragm underneath the hood on the firewall right in front of the driver's seat. After everything was hooked back up, guess what? The whirring sound is back but it is coming from underneath the hood on the left side of the firewall exactly where I mounted the diaphragm. In your opinion, does it sound like this is pretty much harmless or should I be concerned? Thanks for the inputs. - BB
