Trans Filter O-Ring Removal ?

I'm changing the filter in my TTA transmission, and I can't get the old orange o-ring out. Does anyone have any suggestions on what's the best way to get this out? I've tried a small set of angled needle-nosed pliers, and a regular set of needle-nose......can't seem to get a good grip on it and I don't want to scratch up the opening. Is there a special tool that might work better (such as some sort of o-ring pliers) ?

Thanks Grumpy....I don't think I have anything like that, but I'll have a look......maybe an ice pick from the kitchen might be the closest I have....
