At the Gnats last week our car developed a nasty habit of not upshifting under full throttle. The car runs and drives fine under all other conditions, however. The diagnosis we received was that our governor tossed the spring, so we procured a replacement (with a pinned spring) from SE Turbo and plan to install it this weekend. Does anyone have any advice or info on this task? We've installed a number of valve body kits and such, so we're a little familiar with what a TH200R4 looks like behind the trans pan. Are any gaskets (besides the pan gasket) required? Any special tools? Thanks!

a few things.

You need to add a govenor cover gasket and an inch pound torque wrench to the list. If you've installed valve body kits before, this will be a real breeze. Once you have the pan off, right behind the valve body is the governor cover. It has {4}13mm headed bolts. Remove the bolts, remove the cover and replace the governor and the governor cover gasket, then reinstall the pan. :D

The gaskets don't always break or tear but a new one on hand is always wise so your not left waiting if you need one. the gov. just slips in and out once the cover is off but I would recomend if the spring did get tossed you be sure to retieve it if you can before buttoning it up. and if it didn't toss it then repacing the gov. I oubt will help.
