My transmission in my 87 T has 185,000 miles on it. It has never been worked on. I took it to the track once and made like 4 passes off the foot brake. Now I read a thread where the transmission broke and Lonnie said it is classic foot brake failure. I had a well known Buick transmission expert drive it last year and he said it shifts perfectly. The car is stock and the stock turbo only hits 15 psi. I was just wondering how much longer I can expect it to last if I don't race it. If/when it fails, will I get any warning? I had a transmission fail in a Nissan once and it did not give me any warning. It happened going over railroad tracks. Thanks.

i think mine is the trans that has you all paranoid..
mine shifted perfect right up until it broke. i don't know what kind of abuse my car saw before i got it, but it was enough to blow the stock engine at around 55,000 miles so i'll assume that it wasn't treated nicely..
the thing about the older oem auto transmissions is that you just never know when they will break- they might go tomoorow, and they might outlive the car.
so don't worry about it. and if you are paranoid, it's only a couple hundred $$$ to take it out and do a preemptive rebuild.

I drove my old T-Type 190,000 miles and the last 25,000 2nd was slipping. If it makes you feel any better. I was referencing 200s that are raced often and beat on. It takes its toll on the low roller clutch over time. This is still a very uncommon failure. 4 passes will not put you in any danger of that failure. When I have seen failures like that it has been when they have been raced hard launching car hard lots of passes low 11 - 10 second cars are more common. 185,000 miles you should start at thread on who has the miles on a stock 200 in a Turbo car. I would bet you are close to a record.

they normally break on 11 and 10 secoind cars? on the pass when mine broke, i think my time was in the mid 10's in the 1/8th- which equates to somethng like an eternity in the 1/4 mile.
when they are gonna go, they are gonna go. it really isn't worth worrying too much about.
