trans is out [ no 1st to 2nd shift

I could not get the thing to shift but two times when it was put in and i had to rev it real high to get it to shift then after that nothing, has all gear like park , rev , and first. Is there any thing to check now that it is out, gov is ok checked that .

any help would be great , this trans was rebuilt when i bought it i was told, so mybe something easy to fix.

one more thing , how much play should the rear shaft in the trans have.

Check the band, band anchor pin, the hole pin goes into in the case and band, servo apply pin, servo seals. Output shaft with yoke on no play that you feel by hand, yoke off too much to measure.

what is the easy way to check all this and the best way to take it apart , where to start.

Best place to start if you don't have one is get a manual.

i cant find a book , what the easy way to get to the bands.

i pulled the servo out and every thing looks ok , there was some fuild in the back bottom when i pulled it, should there be any fuild init at all , very little.

Check the seals and surfaces of the servo for any obvious nicks, cuts , scratches that may cause a leak. Yes there will be some fluid in there.

There is no easy way to get the band. It requires partial disassembly, pump, od, center support then you can see the band. I wouldn't advise going any farther without a manual.
