Hi guys,

Took the car to my local 1/8th mile strip this past weekend, looking back through the logs the car's shift points seem to be all over the place. The RPM climbs all the way up to 6500 in 1st, drops to 4950 on the shift, then 5850 on the 2/3 shift back down to 4700. The convertor is unknown NL seems to have a stall in the low 3000s. The power band is also unknown, car has never been on the dyno. This car seems to be built to rev it has a solid lifter cam, scorpion roller rockers, ect....

My question is don't these shift points seen mismatched? If I'm making power past 6000 shouldn't 2nd gear shift point reflect that? Also are the rpms dropping too low? The car feels great off the launch then seems to fall on it's face 3rd gear feels anemic.

Are.we.working.with a 2004r, th400 or something else? If it is the 2004r, has it been worked on by someone? Does it have the stock brf vb and gov?

Built 2004r aftermarket vb and gov, 1st revving to 6500 is more likely a converter issue since the gov weight controls both the 1/2 and 2/3 shifts is that true?

The vb and governor control shift points. There are shift valves in the vb that have springs. This is how yours doesn't have the same rpm at each shift. I would get hold of who ever put that vb together and have them adjust it.

Sound like about the way my OG vb shifted. Though I had it a bit closer than that. I guessing the 3-4 shift will come in about 5000 then.

It's definitely possible to have the shift points at different rpms, and if someone's fooled around with vb/gov combos it's almost expected of it. If you feel up to it, I can give you some info I found on what to change to get the shift points where you want them, or if not, you can take it to someone knowledgeable. It shouldn't require much more than an afternoon of tinkering with it through the pan area.
