trans wont shift

Transmission will not shift from first to second with out lifting at wot. The one thing that I have done is gone from a lockup to a nonlockup convertor and the only change to the transmission was to cut the purple wire which locks the converter. The detent cable is set to factory specs. I dont want to overhaul or buy a transmission if not needed. Is there something elese I need to do to the transmission to make the nonlockup work. I hope along with the n/l t/c you modified the tcc valve? don't know if that would give thesymtom you have, you might try taking a click or 2 out of tv cable adjustment to see if that helps.
