I have a translator with a brand new GM Impala 3" MAF . All dip switchs are set right . Car will only run right when base setting is set for a 3.5" MAF ( 0) . If I set it for a 3" MAF the car runs real rough and feels like it wants to stall . AF reading for MAF at idle are at 9 . Car runs and performs well when translator is set for a 3.5" maf . What gives ?????

That happened to me, but it was because I took the screen out. didn't like it too much. good luck.

There is a post on here from RamCharges on all the settings.

Mine translator+/extender chip using a 3" MAF are
On,On,Off,Off

3,3,0,E

It's just a Translator not a Trans + . All dip switchs are set right on.

Are you using an Extender chip?

When you say "all dip switches are set right", what exactly are they set at?

Reason I ask is because if you are, then you need to set the third Dip switch to off which turns the MAF limiter off. So it would be "ON ON OFF OFF"

If you DONT have an Extender, then the 3rd dip switch should be set to the ON position. So it would be "ON ON ON OFF".

If you have an extender, and have the third dip set to "ON", then your car is reading 18GPS at idle instead of 9 (causing an overlyrich idle).

Some of us have have problems with the translator translating.
I have a 3 in but it runs better on the 3.5 - 1 setting. I did a post on this a while back and Jim Testa had to run his 3 in on the 3.5 setting.

Translator

I have the standard Translator on my car with the 3 inch MAF. When I first got it all put together, I was having problems getting it to run right. I called Ramchargers and talked to Mike and he informed me that alot of guys were having alot of luck running their Translators set on 3.5 instead of the 3 inch setting. I finally tuned around it, and got it to run excellent on the 3 inch setting. But if your car runs better on the 3.5 setting, tune it that way and go with it. It wont hurt anything and go with what works. HTH

It's just a translator version 4.0 (no extentor) . Dip switchs are set on , on , on , off . I'm just concerned why would it do this .

It has to do with a SLIGHT calibration variance between MAF sensors. At idle, 1 gps will make or break a good tune. I put a translator on my car, doing nothing else, my idle BLMs went from 130 to 150 and was blowing black smoke. Cant be right? Adding fuel when the car is clearly rich? I believe this is due to the fact MAF value takes more precedense in the fuel calc than O2 does. ANYWAY, setting MY car to the 3.5 base 0 setting resulted in BLM's falling back to 132 and the car ran actually very well. A few tweaks to the MAF tables (yes, I have that luxury) and my car ran as good, if not better than it did with the stock MAF.

If your car runs well on the 3.5 setting, leave it, nothing will happen. It just means that the signal in that position more closely matches the stock MAF in YOUR case. Not everyone will benefit from doing this.

I have since removed my MAF in favor of running a FAST system so at this point, all my tuning was for nothing other than learning experience :)

If you're seeing 9gps at a 800rpm idle, the ECM is fueling for 9gps despite the engine flowing 6gps of air, hense the high BLM (ECM adding) and the black smoke. Make sense?

I have the standard Translator with Extender chip and I use the 3.5" (10% lean) base setting. Car won't idle at 3" setting.

No black smoke is present when car is idleing . but car smells a little rich . Can this be corrected some how ? I dropped in one of your alky chips Jim . went for a long ride. and AF is now 8 and the IAC has dropped out to 0 . car feels strong and idles well . Fuel pressure 40 static . blm's 115 .
