Thinking about ordering a translator plus and air meter.Nobody in my area running one.Are they worth the price, and how much performance gain can i expect? Are the maf's cheaper at local auto stores?
 
Cant help too much unless you list what you have and mods. Not much gain on stock car, LOTS of potential on a modified one

No one can predict that.
The translator Plus allows you to tune your car.
If you just so happen to have the Perfect Chip, then there will be 0 change, if your chip is way off, then you can make some serious improvements on it.

If you run it and an extender, then MAF dropout is impossible. The extenders get you a whole lot of neat little features.
 
My modifications are: pt-51,v-2 front mount,50#'s,houston downpipe, ans boost controoler, 2 3/4" exhaust, 340 walbro,lubrant chip,jw 3200 non-lock converter .I was running 18lb boost on 93 with no knock,just installed rjc race plate,now 20lb boost and no knock.Joe seems to have this chip dead on,so translator may not be of much help.Any comments?
 
Well to see any significant gains you would need a T-Plus and Extender, about a $500 deal. Your car seems to be running good so I wouldnt mess with it for now. If you decide you want to run low 11's or 10's it would provide a significant benefit because of its tunability

Just the added airflow because of the much improved flow of the LT1/LS1 maf's over the stock plastic piece. I was running 12.00's @113 through my stock MAF.

By the time I'd gone to an LT1/Translator, and eventually made my way up to the LS1/Translator+/Extender chip combination, and got everything optimized.... well, the results are in my sig.
 
Thanks guys for the info. I went 7.24 @ 96mph in the 1/8 before i went to the jw converter ,v2 front mount ,rjc plate, and 50#'s.Haven't been back to the track yet waiting for it to cool down here in the south.I would think it reasonable to pick up 2 tenths with these added mods.I guess we'll see in a couple weeks.I know when i ran the 7.24 several of the turbo guys around here couldn't believe i ran those numbers with the pt-51 but they all witnessed it. The Mustangs guys are hating it too because i sold my built out the rearend 7.30's mustang ride for a 30,000 mi.,original paint,bone stock motor 86 t-type.Now i have A trunk, room to spare, and a much better riding car. :D :D

And your basing that opinion on what?.
Because it worked on other peoples cars?.
How many different chips have you tried?.
 
I have only tried 2 chips in this car .Joe' s has worked the best out of the 2. I am going to try a chip from Jim Testa and compare the 2. I have been told that if your chip is pretty much on,then the translator+ is not going to make much difference other than the stock maf going bad.That is why i have been asking opinions on whether or not it is worth the money right now and if i can gain any performance with my mods. i now have
 
You can get what maf you want at GMPARTS direct, cheaper than any parts store or any dealer. I got my 3.5in. there for around a 106 bucks and shipping. How do you know nobody around you runs one, you dont live anywhere, there is no location in your sig, must be a secret or the city you live in hasn't been named yet.

Thanks for the info. i will look them up if i decide to go with the translator.As far as to where i live, i live in north carolina and the reason i know nobody runs one around here is because all the buick's around here are taken to my buddy's shop to be worked on,he's the only one in town that can work on them without screwing them up. The local buick dealership sure can't! Sadly most of the buick owners around here are satisfied with factory performance or slight modifications.I'm not,they are never fast enough!:)
 
who is your buddy in nc thats a darn good running car 7.20 sthats fast have you run your car in the 1/4 mile yet ..?and how fast is it rick
 
No,Rick i haven't run it in the quarter yet.I was supposed to on friday at the BOP but it rained and i was unable to make it the rest of the weekend.I am going to try to make the bristol bash this coming weekend.I am pretty amazed with the car because it is such a simple combo.Chris T is his name,that has tuned and wrenched on my car.He's knows his stuff.HE ought to , he owns 3 turbo buicks.Haven't ran it since front mount,converter,50#'s, rjc plate and air bags.I am hoping for 7.0's maybe 6.90's in good air in the 1/8.
 
i stay in springhope nc about 30 min from raliegh nc where are you at if not to far we should get together.?i would like to talk with chris and see what he can do to my car .where do you run your car. i have been to rocking ham ..still think thay might be running there but do not know rick
 
I am in Asheville and we usually run at Shady side dragway near shelby ,n.c. which is about 30 minutes from charlotte.Cris is usually on the board but is recovering from surgery.I expect he will be up and running in the next few days.I can put you in touch with him if you'd like.
 
I am back. This surgery thing sucks!

Thanks for the good word Kevin. Please send PM or e-mail for my phone number or address. I will be down a few weeks recovering from my surgery. I don't like to list where I am from because people lurk and like to steal from others. Not the members on this board but others looking in. This has been a problem on other boards.
