Do i need a 86-87 computer to put a ls1 maf, translator in my car or will it work with my stock 85 computer? Any help would be nice.

Just wondering, because I called full throttle today and the guy I talked too said that I needed a 87 computer to make it work.I thougt it had been done before with out the computer mod. Why would he say it wouldn't work? Just trying to get my facts in order.
